The democrats are getting into a sorry plight over the township ticket, named by the peculiar convention which was held the other day. It scems also sotded that the passenger conches will be kept on this side, cleaned and repaired here, thus adding eon: ole business to the yards here. L. Squire. No. 101 Pearl street, Council Blufls. —~—— To-day's Convention. The republicans meet this afternoon at 2 o’clock to nominate candidates for the township oftices. There are numerous aspirants for positions on the ticket. Among the names mentioned as liable to be placed upon the ticket for justices are E. Rosecrans, J. H. Kilgore, E. S. Bar- nett and E. J. Abbott. There is some possibility of Squire Burke's name being favorably considered for one of the jus- tices offices. He rather expects to be let out of the office of city clerk by next spring, and in that case it would be pref- erable to be seated in an oftice which he can hold for two years, and probably for us much longer as he felt inclined to re- tain it. There has been also some talk of the republicans endorsing Justice Schur Substanti O\TAIIA DAILY or Justice Hendri or both, in view ¢ the uabble i iich the democrats find themselves, and the independent candidacy of these two gentlemen. For constable there are also numerons names being mentioned. Prominent among these are Wall McFadden, John Fox and Joe Spaulding. The delegs were selected last follows: irst Ward—F. M. Williams, w.
