Tryi Fruits, Confectionery and Cigars, be in the market always in stock. Fran Witherell, 224 Broadway Bridge Tolls, The Union Pacitic has magnamiously decided to reduco the fare between Coun- cil Bluffs and Omaha. Instead of charg- ing fifty cents for the roundtrip, a reduc- tion of five cents will be made, so that the price will be forty-tive cents instead of fifty. The round trip tickets must be used on the day of issuance. Hitherto the fare for the round trip was the same whether a person purchased a round teip ticket, or two single ticke It cost fitty cents for a round trip tickot, and f tire unfortunate purchaser did not happen to use the return ticket until the next day, he was ealled on to pay his fare or be put off. The company has doubtless found out that it cannot legally refuse to accept aticket, even if it is presented after the date of issuance, unless the ticket is sold ut a loss than regular price, and with the understanding that the reduced prico i the consideration by which the passenger promises to use the ticket on the day of Issuance. ‘This fuct is doubtless the Teus- on why the Union Pacitic has reduced the rice of round trip tickets to five cents 1t costs to buy twosingle tickets, umored that within a short time the tare to and from Omaha will be reduced still more. One is that passengers buying thei kels at any other place than Council Blulls and Omanha are ch 1 fifty cents for the bridge fare. If he buys his tioket simply to Omaha he can at Omaha huy a uch for the Blufis for l\vuulf five esots, The samie is true as to those coming from points. If they b they will have (o more if “they bought Council Blufts, and” hence is cheaper o buy tickets to Couneil Bluffs, and then buy here a ticket for over the bridge if a person de- sires Lo go further west, Another pecu- liurity of the bridge tolls is that if a per- $on gets onto the train without a ticket he is obliged to pay 60 conts for crossing the bridge, instead of 25 cents. Hels iven a rebate cheek for 25 conts, so that ho oiun, on presenting this at the office of the company, get the money and reduce his fure to 85cents. It seems that the Union Pacitie is afraid its conductors wili handle some money, and to prevent this the public must be punished if they do not buy tickcts before getting upon the train. Often it happens that a fam- ily, strangers,or those ignorant of the rule, get onto the train, andinstead of having to pay a dollar for four persous, the co ductor smiles blaudly as he calls for tickets to 'lillr cents simply to it THE OMAHA DAIL 7 1 | $2.40.
