Candidates Compelled to Show Their Colors aa the Main Tssue, Stirring Announcement in the Klev- enth Senatorial District—The Un quatified Declaration of John H. Felber for Van Wyek. Harrisaron, Cedar County Nob Aug. 1.—[Correspondence of the Br.] T'lic man or party who thinks Van Wyck 18 not the issue in the Eloventh senatorial district will get badly “left” when the votes are counted this fall. The farmers for Van Wyck, the who reflects eredit national legislative as of one accord only Nebraska man on the state in - our alls at Washington. In this district least, the man who announces himself as candidate for representative in our state legislature must aman who is known to be not only a Van Wyck supporter now, but he must have the record of being o Van Wyck man in the past—regardless of political policy. So far we have heard of several senatorial aspirants, but with the exception of one they are trying to earry water on both shoulders, and are not even satistied with that. To a Van Wyck man they in timate they are for Van Wyek, to a hide bound republican or democrat’ they are not for Van Wyek: in fact it is impossible to be for Van Wyck and be a “‘machine” andidate of ecither of the old partics. Many have been trying to get these “r chine’’ ecandidates to come out openly and_declare themselves, either for or against \ an vek, but they don’t nor won’t. This being the case Mr. John H. Felber, of this place, will announce him self as’ follows through the local press this week, and through at least most of the Van Wyck press of this distriet: ANNOUNCEMENT. To the Voters of Dakota, Dixon, Cedar and Knox connties, constituting the, Elevenilh Senatorial district ot Nebraska: While u re- publican in prineiple, L hereby announce nyself as an independent_eandidate for sen- ator of this aistrict, regardless of polities, and for the avowed purpose of supporting the Hon, C. I Van Wyek for United States sen- ator, from first to last, and no non-committal business about it, Yours, etc., Jony H, FELnen, HARTINGTON, Neb., July Mr. Felber is one of the earliest of the arly settlers of this country, having come here in the fifties. He is an inde- pendent republican, not a machine v publican. He has ever been a believer in true republican principles and outs loose from the party only when the ring- sters lead off from these principles, Mr, Felber is not & man to sacritice vrinciple for p ""f" especially when the party has peen led astray by politicians who e dorse everything and nothing and train with the “railrogue” gang and other monopolists for *policy” sake. Mr. Felber has the courage to declare ons; he is no politician, but after lr_yme to get republican candi- now in th re them- or senator e ficld to dec! selves for Van Wyck, has he concluded to announce himself as a candidate, and pledge himself as being for Van Wyek first, last and all the time. Those who know him nced no pledge, for we all kuow him s not only now Leing a Van Wyck man, but that” in the past’ he has lost no opportunity of standing up for Van Wyck. Mr. Felber 1s a man thoroughly re ble in every respect; has no bid ~habits and not a word can be suid against him asa man, and s eclection would be a eredit to the district. This county is and has been strongly democratic. ~When the republican party of the county aliowed itself to _be bam- boozled by tricksters, then Mr. Felber de- serted the republican ship—so far local politics were concerned, at least. At that time there was but one paper in the county and that was on its last legs. Mu. Felber bought it and hired a man to run it as an independent republican sheet, and in the interest of anti-monop- oly, and when he sold the paper three years ago 1t was under contract that the paper should continue to advocate anti- monopoly prinelples. Klr. Felber is the leading merchant and ong of the most successful business men of Cedar county, and if the people of this district want a' man who is unqualifiedly for Van Wyck and who has the ability and brains to vote and work intelligently for the best interests of the people of the state at Lincoln they can do mno _better than to at once begin the canvass for Mr. Felber. The ‘‘machine’” men are now layin, the wires; they will make all sorts of ef- forts, honest and otherwise, to defeat the people. The *‘machine” republicans do ot want Van WFck, because he is not a ‘machine” man himself. The ‘‘machine’” men train with the railrogue gang; Van Wyck fights ronopoly on every side, and is the only man now in our national con- gress from this state who has, or tries to secure legislation in the interests of the people. oters_of the Eleventh district, if you are for Van Wyck, and want to send a man to the state senate who will do hi utmost to make Van Wyck his own suc. cessor, and who will work for the best intorests of the people of this state, then work and vote for John H. Felber, of Cedar county. Your correspondent requests Van Wyck papeas of the Eleventh district to please copy this communication and charge it up to the good of the eause, H.
