Some fime ago this project was * started and an ordinance was passed by the council, but there arose some mis- understanding about one scetion of the ordinance in regard to rates to be eharged. With the understanding had ~ by the Union Pacific it scemed that the company could not ept the right of way. As they understood it only such * yates could be charged trom this local depot as were charged from the transfer * depot, and that it might be claimed that Council Blufls freight thus shipped would be entitled to the same rates us through reights from the east. The council and citizens understood the rates were to be the same from th local depot us they would be on other Council Bluffs freight delivered at the & nsfer. Early on Saturday morning, between 1 and 2 o'clock, the depot at Dow City, on the Northwestern road, burned down. The entire depot and platform, with their contents, were consumed.
