GUM, GUM, GUM NEW G000SuiL0W PRICES Fxclusive Rubber House FOUND, BUT DEAD. The Body of Frederick Spetman Re- covered from the River, For several days the many friends of Frederick Spetman, a well-to-do farmer of Mills county, have been In anxious suspense over his sudden and mysterious disappearance, His descriptien had been noattered over the country, and a reward offered for the recovery of the body, It belng sapposed that he had elther fallen Into the river by accldent, or else foully murdered. Yesterday morning F. W. Spe'man & Bro., of this clty, recelved a telegram from Olaude Watson, coroner of Otoe county, Neb, and dated at Ne- braska Olty, September 21, saying: “Man found In river here to-night, an- awerlng desoription of Frederlok Spetman. Come or at once.” On receipt Mr. Holst, of Holst & Spetman, and Mr, F. W. Spetman, at once started for Ne- brarka Olty, accompanied by Mr. Charlea Keith, the general agent of the ‘‘Q.” Later In the day other telegrams were re- cetved stating that the body was surely that of Mr. Spetman, and that arrange- ments had been made for bringing him home on the evening train, the train to be stopped between Hinton and Island Park, at a spot about forty rods from the home of the unfortunate man, whence he could easlly be taken, The telegrams recelved durlng the day were chlefly about the arrangements In regard to get- ting the body home, and contained no in- formatlon as to the details of his death. The coroner’s Inquest threw no light upon the myatery of the death. There were no marks of violence on the body, but the absence of the money which - the deceased had when he left home, arouses susplolon of foul play. ——— Tired of Drunken Abuse, The BEk yesterday morning contalned an account of the doings of a German, named Rudolph Kuentzle, who was ar- rested and put In jail for having a row with his wife, whom he had followed here from the old country. Yesterday the wife, Emllle Kuentzle, commenced proceedings In the dlstrlct court to se- oure a divorce. She sets up in her peti- tlon that she was marrled to him In 1875 in Bilsching, Prussia. He soon took to drink, and became a habltual drunkard, and was so cruel and abuslve that she feared for her life. He at one time stabbed her with a knife In one of his frenzled spells. She left him, and came to this country, but he followed her to this clty, and he has commenced his at- tacks upon her agaln. In coming to a land of freedom she wants to secure freedom indeed. plalntiffs brovght thi for the purpose of haviog a certaln ordi- nance of the city declared Invalid, It be ing an ordinance vacating a portlon of an alley. In the circult court, on a hearing there, the petition wes dlsmissed, and the plaintiffs appealed. The supreme court affirmed the declsion of the clrcalt court. 0. E_Adsms & Oo., snd others b Frank T. Plper and others, appellants. From O'Brien distrlct court. This action was to recover damages for libel, It was clalmed that the defendants had charged the plaintiffe, who are dealers In grain, with having formed a combination to re- daoe the price of graln, one of the plaintiffs purchasing one day, and the rotber the next, and so on, and that as s esult the price of grain was kept lowere than In the nelghborlng towns. Th plaintiffs secared a judgment, and the defendant appealed. The suprema court declded that the charges were not of such ® nature as to provoke the plaintiffs to wrath, or hold them up to public con- tempt, as It was well known that graln men were In the hablt of forming com- binations to control prices, and that such being a custom of the trade, there was no damage, and the case was reversed, e — 1f you wish to make legitimately from Ten to Fifty Dollars per day, write to Judd & Smith, No, 34 Fourth street, Council Bluffs * e —— The exposition given under the auspices of the Woman's Exchange, Is now under way, and will open on Monday, October 16, Itdis hoped it will excel in excel- lence and suoccess the same enterprise one year ago.
