He wes weathy, and olaimed that Clatterbuck had no business to rettle with the horee trader for $75, but that he should have made the horse trader pay all the costs beslder, thus leaving him the origl- nal $75. He wanted the attorneys to begin eult agalnst Clatterbuck for the balance of his money, and indignantly threw down the $46 on the table of the attorneys, and ssid that he would not take it. The Itallan grow hotter and hotter as he thought of how his money had dwindled down, and he had nothing to show for It, and the attorneys, while not thinking that it would do any good to sue Clatterbuck, followed hls instruc- tlons aad commenced actlon. Th's action he soon after dismissed, having been ad- for the horse. vislng with some of his other frlends, He concluded he had better take what he could get and qult the courts, but on ap- plylog to his avtorneys for his monoy he found thet they clalmed It as fees, o that he had nothlng at all left. The attirneys clalmed that the Itallan had ordered them to sue Clatterbuck, and gave them the $46 for thelr foes, and that it was not thelr fault If he dismissed the case, they retaining the money under the contract thus made. The Itallan could see nothing to the whole affair except the fact that wheress ho once had $75, he nsw had nothing, aud that it had cost him all of the money to get the money back from a man who had swindled him ont of it on a horse trade. There was blood In his eye, and he yesterday made a demand on Ware for the money, and being refused ho proceeded to choke and shake the attor- ney, and make direful threats. Tho Itallan was arrested, on the charge of assanlt, and will have a hearing this morning, which will probably cost him ten dollars more. He begins to think that American modes of dealing out justice are very complicated and costly, and the next time he ls of- fered any monoy he will probably be con- tent to take what he can get, rather than fight for the whole. His temper and his ignorance have cost him so far about $75, and If he carries into execution the threats ho has been indulging In he will probably find that the bill will run still higher. ~ His attack on the attorney yet- terday caused qulte a litile street sensa- tion, and no little sympathy wasexpressed for the fellow who had thus taken his first lesson In the courts and in dealing wl h attorneys. After glving bonds for hls appearance in the mornling to answer to the charge of aseault, the Itallan was arrested again on snother complaint, that of making threats, Mr. Ware being the complainant, and Justice Fralney issniog the papers. e ——— Workers with metals generating elec- trloity escaped the cholera of '49. hel use our electric belts, Judd & Sm'th, Counc!l Bluffs. GETTING HOT. A Whispered Threat That if the Sz loons Will Not Pay License They shall Close, E—— Not more than half of the saloon men have paid the llcanse required under the pop ordinance, and each seems waltlng to see what the others are going to do. Those who pald for August do not feel dlsposed to pay for another month until they can see that the others are to be made topay. The clty authoritles are trying to hurry up the delinquents by arresting them for keeplog open after hours, and other charges, bat not many have been forced into line. The matter has reached a crlsls now, for there will ba no license money paid i untll those who are willing to pay shall see the de- Iinquents brought to tlme. The city solous are puzzling their heads greatly over the situation, and it has gone cut on the quiet that {f the ssloon men do not come to the front promptly and freely, and pay the required license, without any bickerings or fooling, theclty in its ofticlal capacity will return the money tothose who have pd, and wiil then proceed to shut all up tight. The license ordinanca was arranged at the instance of those who sald that if they could run without being disturbed by the clty authoritles they would gladly pay a license. Now that they have the privilege, they refuse to pay.
