Jackson, who figures as the swindling hero, went to the oashler of the firm pamed, and rapresented that he had bough' a Iarge number of cattle In Iowa and had made a cash piyment of $100 to bind the bargsin, He said he had no cash to pay the balance, and asked the firm to ossh a draft for $1,600. After some hesitatlon thils was dons, On a week ngo last Saturday Mr. Jackson disappeared, going, It le presumed, to Towa. Nothing was heard of the cattle purchase, and not until Thursdey of last week did Me: Wagher, Savage & Sanders suspect that they had been defranded. It was found that the draft for $1,500 which Jackson had given was not worth the paper it was written on, A repre sontative of the firm was dispatched to Towa, where Jackson was supposed to have gone, but that gentleman wes no- where to be found. Monday evening the case was turned over to Sherlff Miller who at once swore out a complaint againet Jackson in Justice Wets He is confident that he can locate Jack- son aud bring him back to Omaha. e —— Beptember Stars, The most baautiful object In the west- ern heavens, and will ba for several months to como, s the planet Venus, now the ovenlng star.
