Grant and take the necessary steps reletive to the memorial services that are to be held on the day of the funeral. The council was convened by President Bechel, and Measrs. Baily, Behtm, Daily, Faray, Goodelch, Lee and Schroeder, answered the roll call. Mr. Furay presented the followlng resolations which were read and unan- {mously adopetd: Whereas, After a long and uncom- plalning stroggle, herolcally ended, it has pleased the Supreme Ruler of the universe in His Inacrutable wisdom to call home to his reward our most {llas- trious soldler and cltizen, General U, S. His cate was a sovere one, but Olty Physiolan Leltenring, who was called to attend him, says that he wlill recover all right. A woman whoss name could not be learned fell, prostrated with the heat, near the depot yesterdsy afternoon. She was taken into Bell's drug store, where the ordinary remedies were applled. She was soon able to be taken home. BRUISED AND BLOODY, Officer Donovan Eacounters a Herd Hitter in the Person ¢ Tom Fisher, “Where are you staylng now,” sald Officer Donovan, yesterday afternoon, to Tom Fisher, a notorlcus negro tough, whom he met loafing around the corners of Capitol avenue and Tenth street, which Is known to be the hardest section of Omaha, “I am staylng here,” surly manner, “‘Ihen you had better not stay here vory long,” commanded Donovan, No sooncr had the words left his mouth than Fisher slugged him over the left eye, a torrible blow, then ran toward the river as fast as he could go. The hlow cut a wicked gash in Donovan’s face from which the blood flowed freely, and knocked him down, but he was aocon ca his feet again and in pursuit of the fleelng villain, By this tlme Officer Burdish came to his rescus and near the rlver they captured Fisher. Thero another bloody fight cccurred, but the ofticers finally downed theic manand carted him up to headquarters where he was safely secared for the night. When they arrived there Dont. van and the prisoner were both covered with blood. In the race after Fisher, officer Burdish fell and tore one leg of his trousera off, hut aside from that went through the battle unharmed.
