There ara but fow shesp in the market and little demand, Cattle are in good demand at about the eame prices. The butter market 1s badly demoralized. Only a gmall amount of thereceipts, composed of the very best quality of grass butter is so- lected, and brings 10c at best, while all off grades are taken by packers only at from 8@re. It did seem for a while this week that the eg market would strengthen up some, but in- creased receipta fixed the price at 'Oc. _ The receipts here of strawberries this week are very heavy, the commission men having more business than they can easily manage, Business has been very good during the past week and prices fair, and some instances slight advances. The following prices are charged retailers by jobbers, wholesale and commission mer- chants with the exception of graln, which is quoted at the prices furnished by the eleva- torn and other local buyers: shipmonts, venk Live Stock Market Hogs—Receipts wero light at the Union stock yarde, and market steady at yes. terday’s prices, Common rough mixed packing, $3 40@8 50; and good to choice mixed packing, $3.50@3.60. Common rough he and skips unsaleable. All sales of stock in this market are made per cwt live weight unless otherwise stated. Dead hogs sell at 14c per pound for weights of 200 pounds and up vards, and 1o for under 200 pounds, Pregount sows are docked 40 pounds and stags 80 pounds. General Produce Butter—The market is in the worst state o! demoralization and the glut continue: comparatively small portion of the rec composed of the best quality of fresh grass butter only—is picked out by tho trade, Oc Deing the best price obtainable and almost an exception, whi'e all off grades, such as lack uniformity in color or huve not been worked properly, aro takeu by packers only at ex- oraely low prices, rasging from 8@7c, 'The total is surely very discouragiog to shippers, and prospects are anything but bright, Sales are made very slow now, Eggs—At the beginoing of the week it seemed as if the mark.t was going to strength- en up some, but receipts increased and they would not move above 10c. Rotten eges are now putting in an appearance and candling is necessay. Poltry—Receipts of old chickens are very heavy and demand is only limited, not over $8.00 ebtainable.
