Fightcenth Annual Convention of the Nehraska Diocese in Session. “Pray or tho Peace of Jerusalem," a Bermon by the Rev, James Runcie, D, D., of 8t, Joseph— List of the Delegates Present — Standing vomm lttees, Kte, The elghteenth annual councll, of the protestant eplacopal church, for the dlo- cete of Nebraska, convened yesterday morning, at Trinlty cathedral, corner of Oapital avenuas and Eighteenth strost. The attendance of minlsters and dele- gates is large. At 9 an interesting meeting was held, followed by communion services. A short recess was then taken, and at 10:30 o’clock, the Rev. James Runcle, D. D., of St. Joseph, Mo., preached an elcquent ser- mon, using for his text these words: “Pray for the peace of Jeruselam, They shall prosper that love peacs; peace be within thy walls and plentiousness within thy palaces,” At the close of the sermon, the church council met and organized by the elec- tlon of James Paterson as secretary for the ensulng year. The plaintiff aeks $90 damages for prop- erty destroyed in the late freight house fire. Troxell and Willlams have commenced suit agalnst K, Morony to obtaln payment on $245.85 worth of eggs alleged to have sold to defendant in the month of April, 1885. Monday, Frank Williams, a brakeman on the Chleago, St. Paul, Minneapolls & Omaha road, was killed by a tramp at Hubbard Station for no other reacon than that Willlamys put him off of the tratn, where he and his partner In the touriet business wero stealing a ride. The body of Whllams was brought to this city last night, and a coromer from Chlcago by the name of M. W. Ranfield, will ar- rive here this morning and take it back to that clty with him. At Ponca, a station on the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha road, 130 milos north of here, the dead body of A. G. Coleman was found yesterda; morning, laying In a frelght car, stiff and cold. The yardmaster and his crew were loading a lot of stock and whea one of the cars moved up to the echute they were horrified at the ghastly sight which met thelr eyes. Coleman was laylng on his back. held a revolver in one hand and his clothing was red with blood that had streamed from a bullet hole directly through the heart. A telegram was yesterday recelved from the Chicago chief of pollce atking that his remalns bs sent to that city and they are to be forwarded to-day. From a gentleman who falked with a brakeman who was with Frank Williams and saw the killing, the following account was obtained: The two {ramps were found on the traln at Hubbard, and Wliliams put them out of the car, using 10 more force than is usual or nascessary. The men were abusive, particu’atly Rob- inson, a small man with a withered hand. Robinson, as he way leaving the car, called Willlams a vile name, and Will- {ams ran after him. He had not struck the tramp nor overtaken him when the fellow turned and shot, the bullet hitting Willlams in the breast. Ho died almost instantly. Conductor Hobert, of the Norfolk train, speaking f the ahooting of Wil- liams, said: *““What to do about this three of theso fellows trled to get on the train as it was pulling out, bat I epotted them, and they quit when I spoke, Itls notone day now and then, but every day. I venture to say that every freight train that comes or goes from Stoux City at night brings in or takes out tramps. Suppose the traiamen find them, they can only put them off at the firat sta- tion, and very likely they get on the same train agaln. A SAD ACCIDENT, A handscme and bright little girl, 5 years old, daughter of Thomas Hobbs, whose home is at Oscecla, this state, met with an accident yesterday that renders her a cripple for life. Mr. Hobbs and his fawlly were aboard the Union Pacific train, journeying westward. It seems that at David City this little girl went outside and was standing on the platform. When the traln started to move, in some way she was jostled, and losing her bal- ance fell to the ground. A wheel of the car passed over one of her hands, cuttlng it entirely off. The father then stopped at David Oity with his unfortunate child, and placed her und:r the care and treaf ment of a doctor, NOTES, J. 8. Lew was sent up to awalt the action of the grand jury on the charge of assault with intent to kill. The others answered to varlous names, three of them slandering the honest name of the highly respecied John Smith by glving thatas theirs. They weresentup for thirty days each on the charge of unlaw- fu'ly assembling. 1t is understood that they will be turned loose after the circus has left town. In this operation ehs was axisted by Sadle McBride (white) another notorlous siren, who was at fhat time in the housa. Before Dunkel’s cries for help conld avail anything, the two women had inflicted several severo cuts on his face and head. Responding promptly, Officer Fronk Bellamy appesred upon the scene, arrested both women and took them with Dankal, to jall. Two men, Wil liam Plum and John Campbell whom Dunkel accueed of having stolen the watch were also placed under arrest, and lecked up, Daring the afternoon Henderson, Mec- Bride and Plum, were arraigned before his honor, Judge Stenberg, and given a trial, The two women were fined andsen- tenced to serve a term, each, in the work house.
