The “Big Muddy” to be Spanned at Bioux Ofty, It was learned yesterday from authorlt- ative sources that a company composad of moneyed men has been formed at Boston to builda bridge across the Missourl river at Sloux city. They have already eent Geo. S, Morrlson, an expert engin- eer our thero' to look after the survey, make soundings, and take such observa- tlons as are necessary to be had before proceeding with the work. In an inter- view with a Sloux Oity Joaraal reporter M r.Morrlson says that the sites there are of aversge goodness, there belng two ong at the foot of Kansas street and the other at Sawyer's Bluff. He thinks that a railroad bridge would help the city not only In facilitating the businees that now comes to it, but in brioging new business and the city could affurd to glve the real estate needed for bridge ap- proaches. To connect with 1t a wagon-way he states that the additional expenss wonld be $20,000 to $30,000 if the wagon-way were bullt on the same level as the tracks, and a good deal wmore if a sepa; ate wagon-way were made. This do not include the cost of approaches. the Missourl river bridges where there are wagon ways they are on the same deck as the tracks. This does where there is not too much eor g of trains, It would not do, for instance, at Kansas ‘Where a bridge Is practicable on i it can be built for about $500,000. The one at Blair cost less than that. But 1t does not include the approaches nor the river improvement work. At Blalr something less than $1,100,000 was expended on the bridge, river rectificatlon, approaches, four miles of track, steam shovel and OArS ‘When asked as to the positlve chances of s bridge belng bullt at that point the speaker said: ‘‘There is enough ratlroad buslness crossing at this polnt, if it paid the bridge tarff charged elsewhere, to justify the expense of building a bridge. Tae foundation i rather deeper than we had hoped to find it, and not as favorable as the lime rock at Blair. But this foun- dation would be good if the footings of the slan are given enough area 5o as to ;livl o the pressure among mora equare eot.” POLICE COURT.
