The above is & most cruel bit of gossip, such as the young man who Is trying to loarn the newepaper business on that torchlight sheet is alone capable of. The family and thelr fricnds are quite lndlg- nant that such a thrust should be made, with no shadow of truth to it The ad- ministrators of the estate say they never heard of such a rumor, much lees of there belng any facts warranting such a report, and 1t seems that the fresh young man who wrote the above must have been either fooled by some goesiper, or else he {s determined to fill sprce even at the risk of woundivg Innccent hearts, and In- jurlng reputations better than his own. ‘fhe paper will probably spologize, ae wsual in such case e Late, % The following is » list of real estate transfors filed In the recorder's office of Pottawottamie county, Iows, as wrnlshod by A, J. One young man from Rek Oak was among the number. He had llved thero nine years, and was a cock by trade. He had been working a little while here, but getting out of a job, and out of money, he was with the gang, trying to get a ride to Red Ovk, The judge sorted out ten of the crowd and sentenced them to ten days work on the streets, and the others were turned loose. One of the chosen was very irate and blurted out, ‘‘What have I donel” “Nothing. That’s what's the matter. We propose to glve you something to do.’ Hedld not seem to be much better i fied by this answer, and went off grumbling to join the others on the street | 5. gang. There Is enough work about the city, cleaning the mud off the pavements, ete., to keep a number of men busy, and it will bo far cheaper for tho clty than to |7 board these men and let them be idle. The setting of them to work will also be apt to deter regular tramps from hanging out the clty. QUEER NUBSING. How a Drunken Attendant Tortured Small-Pox Patients, There was a clvil case in the superior court yestarday which brought out scms interesting testlmony in regard to the the treatment cf the small-pox cates last winter. Mr. Bloom was stand- ing at the corncr of Broadway and Pearl street, only short distance from the tragedy and saw Austin fall. He sat up with Austin somo nighta before his death, Austin having a bullet in his head, but still being conscious and talking rationally. To-Night at the Y.
