The Third ward polling place is not at Bennett's stable, but at No, 30 Fourtn (Bancroft) street, In the building known as the electrlc belt factory. If those who have ralsed such a hubbab about the lo- catlon of the polls had read the mayor's proclamation, a3y published in the Globe, they would have been saved much fret- ting and waste of words, E. L. Smith now saffers from a bite in the leg, a bold bad dog having nipped him. The dog firat attacked a boy named Henry Ambroge, and Smith in stepping between them to protect the boy, got nipped. He sold durlng the month 26 volumes for $22.55. and re- celved in donatlons $86.65. In his work inthe city he traveled 190 miles. The work will be continued till completed, which will take till about May 1. —— PERSONAL. C, Morgan has returned from Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Chicago, where he has been purchasing goods for the house of Cocke & Morgan, Dr. Rice, of Magnolia, Tows, wasin the city yesterday on a visit to his brother, Rey, G. G.Rice. The doctor+has just returned from a trip to Mexico, where his daughter is missionary, He has many interesting inci- dents to narrate concerning his tiip, — Afine organ, half price, at Beard's wall paper store, next to postoflice, e — Lost His License. At Oaiton, in the case of J, E, Sam- son, an actlon to revoke his permit to sell liquors, It was charged that he had failed to comply with the law In making his reports, that he had sold liquors to persons in the hablt of getting drunk, and aiso had sold lquors as a beverage, The Dr. confessed thess charges in con- sentlng that judgment should be entered revokiog his psrmit. The court entered such judgment, aud the Dr, is, therefore, precladed from obtalning a permit any- where in the state for two years, under the present law. In the other case it was charged he had failed to make re- pots as by law required, and had sold to certain persons in the hablt of getting drank, This made the Dr. liable to a peualiy of $100 for each act. The mat ter was compromised upon the following terms: A judgment in favor of the school fund of this county for §200, coets of sult and an atiorney fee of 100 for pla'ntl least of Influencivg Reed than of influ- encing Shugatt. It would doubtless be an improvement to have Reed elected, but in some respects a greater improve- ment to have Shugart. Mr. Blaxslm in the Third ward will doubtless bo defeated, not becauee he s not a good man, but because the people prefer Straub, deeming him better for the purposes for which they want him just now. There Is one remarkable feature to the campaign, Thus far, with perhaps the exception of Mr. Murphy, not one of the men nominated by either party is accussd of having any political ambition to prompt them to accept the nominations. This 1s a cheerinz nope for the peoplo. For once, the men have boen sought out by the people and urged to run, and there isno charge on either side that any of the nominees desire anything, but {hat, if elected, thcy may help in making a change in the city for the better. Those nominated, however, by the democrats, belonglng to the ruling party, and being liable to more or less ‘‘administration” pressure, do not seem, however, quits 80 safe to trust in this cmergency, Thereis no question about the republican nomi ness. Not one of the three nominated can be drawn Into any of the schemes of the present adroinistration, Before you buy a harness call on Beck— man & Co., 526 Main street. QUICK WORK. The Republicans Mcke Up Their Ticket in Fifteen Minntes, The ¥latform—"Get There," There was no democratic fiftesn ball-ot business about the republican city conven- tion yesterday, At 2 o'clock the conven- tion met in the clty building, A. J. Hart calling the delegates to order. Dr. N. D. Lawrence was made chairman and J, D. Hart secretary. A committee of one from each ward was selected on credentials, as follows; E. B, Gardlner, First ward, J. 0. Rhodebeck, Sccond ward, N. P. Dodge, Third ward, J. ¥, Evans, Fourth ward, After a few minutes deliberatlon the committee reported the delegates as above, and recommended that the tem- porary organization be made permanent, The report was favorably received and the committee discharged, The followiag park commissloners were nominated by acclsmation: A. 0, G ham, J. J. Browa and Thos, Offic For alderman at large John Bennett wae nominated by a hearty, unanimous, viva voce vote, withoat the least objec- tion, The whole business was transacted in less than a half hour, including the may secm, were broken, and he is to-day in fair way of recovery, though seriously hurt In the shoulder and elscwhere. He was brought to this clty, and is now at the Commercial house, under the med- fcal care of Dr, Emmert, and the broth- erly care ot the Odd Fellows, of whose oraer he is an honored member. This being refused he left, and it {s presumed that this was Mr. Acton, and that he got buta few rods away when the terrlble cold of that night overcame him, aud he lay down benumbed and froze to death.
