We are all out, e ——— A fine organ, half price, at Beard's wall paper store, next to postoflice. Mrs. McMenomy’s Faneral, The fanerrl of Mrs. McMenomy, mother of Rev. Father McMenomy, took place yesterday morning at the Ca'holic charch. The church was filled with sor- rowing and sympathizlng friends, and the services were very tender and impressive. A number of prlests from elscwhere wera present, among those officlat'ng being Rev. Father Haley, Rev. Father Lena- han and Rev. Father McCcrmick. The pall-besrers were J. J. Brown. James Wickham, Martin Hughes, M, G. Grif- fin, M, Keating and James C. Lee. A very touching discourse was given by Rev. Father Lenahan, cf Sioux City, in speaking of the worthy traits of Mrs. McMenomy's character, the sim- plicity and the usefulness of her lifc were rightfully made prominent. In the couree of the address a very interesting chspter was presented from her life. It seems that when with her husbind and group of little children, she was about to sot sall from L'\'erp:rolovex an untired sea to this ucknowa world, an officer came down to the vessel and arrested her hus- band on the charge of having sought to take the life of a gentleman in one of the adjacent countles. It was a time of groat political troubles, and & chargo of thls ature even made against an inno- cent man, brought him Into tarrible danger. He met the charje manfally and frankly, knowing that he was innc- cent, buat the parting from the family was indeed heart-rendidg. The wife and mother gathering her little children about her, were obliged to start on the long strange journey without him. He went at once with the cflicer to the gentleman, whose lifs he was charged with seeking, and at onca his innocence was established. The gentlewan, with tears in his eyes, acked his forgiveness and rolmbursed him for his expznses and trouble, 80 far as money could be a recompente. Once more freo ho hurried after wife and children Th:y had takcn a mailing vessel from Liverpocl to New Orleacs, and he hrarding a steamer, made the trlp much faster, and arrlved in this country first. When the famlly arrlved in St. Louis conaty, Missouri, where they were t) maks the'r home, they found the father and husband lying in his coffin, anl about to be lald away in the zrave, He had taken ill soon ufter his arrival, and death followed even before hy and bis wife and children could sgain meet, after 85 painful a separation. The courage arnd faith with which this werthy woman thus met such o trial, and the falthfolce s in meeting the l:vnvy du- ties thus pliced upon, will make the occasion of suitable ccmment by the speaker. The dlscourse was ote of the most fi! ting ever hesrd liare on such an occaslon A beautiful tribute was pald to the mem- ory of the departed, werds (f tender comfort spoken for the bereavi1 hearte, and some valuabie leasons drawn for the gu'dance of the living. ———— Given Away. Instead ot doing 8o he took her to Mollie Wal- laze's well known house, of unsavory raputation, and there left her. She at once saw by the strapgs actlens and words of the inmatss that she had been led Into a place of shame, aad when the conversation went 8o far as to lead to her being asked how she would like to live In a spoiting house, she became frightened and harried out. Mr. Long made the arrest, and Pratt clalmed that he was | at a loss to know what he was arrested for. He sald he was on his way to Coun cil Blaffs to make arrangements to se- oure a loan to pa off some claims which Oakland parties hold #gainst him. He is an honest appearing young min who owns 200 acios of land west of Oakland, and has about 75 head of cattle, and horses cnough to carry on the place with. He insists that he knowa of no reason why he should be arrested. Larer.—Constable Converse came up on the evening train, and It was ascer- tained that Pratt was charged with dis- poisog of his lands with Intant to de- fraud his creditcrs, a transfer of lands already having been made, and he (Pratt was on his way to Council Bluffs to have the mortgages recorded. After his arcest he asked Converse if hc could go up and tee N, D. Sanford, and on being told that Lis could he started out. Converse heard him going down stalrs rather fast ang followed him, and as he got to the sidewalk he saw Prait's coat s disap- pearivg around the Acker corner. He gave chase and overhauled bis man with- in a block and brought him back. Pratt is an innocent-| loolung and tslkative fel- low, but like the toad, it would seem that Lis appearrace is deceptlve. e — "WAIVED EXAMINATION, Lerche, the 1w Editor, B to the Front on a Charge of Burgla Yesterday morning A.
