The judge de- clded to hold Dawsn for appearance be. fore the district ¢ urt on a charge of as- #ault with intent tod ) grest bodily harm, fixiog the bal! at 8300, =|known as the BIBLE ALONE CHUROH. An Interesting Sketch of the Young- est Church In Oouncil Blufte, There Is & modest little church which has been added to the powers for good in this olty, and to which little public attention has thus far been called. 1t is Bible Alone becanse 1he Bible is the only book on which the members are supposed to rely for learning the will of the Almighty. 1t bolongs to the Bap'ist brethren denomi- nation, or more familiatly known, per- hips, as the Dunkards, The pastor is Rev, Mr, Snyder, who Is in the church parlance called ‘‘the housekeeper.” He is a zealous, honest worker, and a man of more than ordinary abllity, He has by great exerti ny, and by much pertonsl sacrifice succeeded in getting a neat church building completed. It Ia located on the coraer of Bluff street and Sixth avenue, a neat, tubstantial brick build irg It is 24 by 40 feet, snd two storles high, As the surface «f the ground is quite rolling, the floor of the church room is on a level with Bluff street, on which, it fronts, The audlense room Is seated well lighted, and quite easy to speaz In, The resident minieter ccsaples the lower part of the bullding. He is alcne here in the work at present, but expects assistance shortly. The church district 1a large, but the member— ship is small as yet. The church was completed, all paid for, and dedicited about the first of July last. Regular services aro ho'd every Sunday at 11 o’clock 8. m., and 7 o’clock p. m. The attendance Is not Ja'ga, but much inter- est is manifest, and 1t seems increasing. The *‘bro herhood” is quite large, how- ever, there being over 75,000 members in the denomination, There are 1,600 ministers, and the strange feature is that not one of them raceives a sa'a'y. In looking over the list another strange fact appears—there are fifty three of the name of ller. The report for last year shows that 2,600 men and wo- men were convertad and were baptized aud recoived into the church, Sinse the first of January there hes been 3756 more added to the number, 106 being conver:- ed at cne revival meeting, and 124 at an- other meeting, these meetlngs being held in Virginia. Among the peouliarities of their beli¢f s that the trus mode of bap- tiem is dripplng three times, cne for each of the trinity. and aleo that the washing of each others feo" is a sacrament which mus’ be kapt up in ascordance with the instructlons of Christ. et Leave your orders for job printing a day or two ahead at Pryor's Bee job of. fice. A QUEER FIRE, A Blight Scorch on Main Street Yes. terday. About 6:40 o'clock yes‘erday morning Theodore Beckman entered his place of business at 525 Main street, and after sterting a fire, the weather belng very cold, tnok a sest by the stove and began reading bis Bee. He notloed the fire to be an unusually good one, but thought nothing more of it wuntil he emelled smcke. Looking out in the rear of the store he saw his next door neighbors throwing bedding, etc , out in the alley. It seems that a baker In Smith & Loerke’s, 523 Main street, on retiring Taesday night found the scos from the chimney falling on his bed, stuffed some rags in the bo'e In the chinney and re- tired. Yesterday when the fire in Beck- man & Co.’s, next door, was lighted the regs caught on tice and fell down on the bed. The bed room being olosed the fire did not blazs up, but smoldered, the smoke sppearing 1n the rooms on the :ireond flor was the firat intimation of a re. During the tussle to save the building Gus Loetke had one of his arms severely burned The lss is very smsll, twenty-five dollars probably covaring it. An Editor’s Troubles, The legal troubles pending between the editor of the 1da county Pioneer and a oltizan of Ida Grove are e'iciting no Lttle interest. It will be tried in Sac county next month and the question to be settled is whether the editor shall receive damages for Injuries Inflicted on his person by a man who files counfer claims for libel. It appears that unpleas- ant relations existed between the editor and the cltizen, the former baving op- posad the latter’s vomination for office, Finally the citizen presided at a demo- cratic mesting and the Pioneer there- upon congratulated the republican party on his chinge of faith, Taeocitizyn an- gered at the statement, lay in wait for the editor with a club and knocked him down. In retorting in the paper the edi- made charges #gainst the ckaracter of the pugilist, whereujon the burly fellow again secreted himself and sprang upon the editor unawares, broke several of his ribs and probab y endangered his life, as Mr. Williams wae already sufferivg frow hip dissesa, and whily unfitted fora pérsonal encounter. 1 seems that Mr, Willloms, who regalued his feet after many weeks of suffering sued the pugilist for $10,000 damages while his gssailant In tura attempts to bilance accounts by cla'ming )ibolous statemenis on the part of the P.oacer, o — Real Estate Transters. WHY THE DINNER WAS LATE, A Clever Thiet Plays a Trick on the LKeeper of a Boarding-House, Mail and Express, A butcher's boy carried a basket con- tsining a big roast of heef, elght p unds of beefsteak and s x chi-kens for the Sun day dioner ino a boarding-house, on Eleventh srcet, last week, He had hardly mounted his cart and driven away dowe the atreet when a smooth- faced young man rang the bssement bell. ““There is some dispute at the shop over the weight of the meat sent rers by the bu:cher,” ho ssid to the lend- lady, ‘‘and I have been sent here to take 1t back and reweigh it.” The landlady thought it was a shame that the butcher cou'dn’t weigh her meats correctly the first time, *“If your atupid clerks can't do their work properly thought to be discharged,” she enapped out. “Would you be kind enough to loan me a tin pan ia which to carry the meat back to the shop?” iuquired the young man with an oleomargarine smile. The landlady took a new bright tin pan and dumped the roast, the steak and the chicken into it. ““There,” she exclaimed, as she gave it to the young wan, “Yuu humy right back with the meat, for I want to cook the roast for dinner.” The smocth-faced youth took the pan with a ‘‘certainly, madam,” and went out to the street. Two hours passed and the young man had not returncd. The dinner h.ur ap. proached and the cook was becomirg fa- 1iuy, At Jast the landlady went post haste to the butcher shop with fire in her eye. "‘thra'n that young man y>u sent to my house to getthe meat I ordered to have it reweighed?” ehs shouted. *‘I haven't sent anyboby to bring back the meat,” replicd tto quicher. “Well, I never!” saxd the wcman, her face red with anger. ‘‘Do you mean to say I have been swindled?”’ ‘I should judge that you had,” mused the butcher ashbe proceeded to sell the landlady another divner. e —— Suit Againet Mrs Garflield.
