The New Mode or Pavma Taxes, Synopsis of the Law, The new law in regard to the payment of taxes seoms so little understood by property-owners, and the taxes becoming due here next Monday, Tue Bee glves the following synopsis of the new law: No demand of taxes shall be necessary but 1t shall be the duty of every person subject to taxation to attend at the office of the treasurer, unless ntherwise provid- od, at some time between the first Mon- day In January and the first day of March following, and pay his taxes in full; or he may pay the one-half thereof before the first day of March succeeding the levy and the remainlng half thereof before the 1st dsy of September following; pro- vided that in all cases where the half of any taxes have not been paid before the 1st day of April succepding the levy thereof, the whole amount of taxes charged against such entry shall become delinquent from the 1st day of March following each levy; and in case the sec- ond installment of any taxes be not pald before the 1st day of October succeed- ing its maturlty, penalty shall be com- puted on such installment from the lst day of September deslgnating the matur- ity of such installment; provided, also, that in all cases where taxes are installment as herein provided, such payments, except road taxes, lhnll be apportioned among the several funds for which taxes have been assessed In their proper pro- Ezrtlom And If any one neglect to pay taxes at or before maturity, as here- in provided, the treasurer may make the same by distress and sale of his personal property not exempt from taxation, and the tax-list alone shall be sufficlent war- rant therefor. All taxes due and unpaid on the first day of March or the first day of Sep- tember, shall become delinquent and drawinterest at the rate of one per cent. per month until paid. Taxes due from any person on personal property shall be a lien upon any real property owned by such person, or to which he may acquire a title. Mr. Sackett, one of Conacil Blufls well | P! known business men, has been Indicted by the grand jury on a peculiar charge. Juappears that he has been selling flour and was not a little surprised on reaching home in the evening to find that some one had come with a wagon and teken away two tons of it, representing that Mr. Poregay had wanted two tons of a different size.
