Cyrus Hamlln, late pastor of the Congregational church of this city, to learn that he has been honored by a call to become the pastor of the Congrega- tlonal church at Beloit, Wisconsin. Since leaving here Mr. Hamlin has been preaching at Oak Park, Ill, and has there been winning his way, as he does and will wherever placed. It is not known whether he will accept the call made him or not, but It seems probable that he will. The church is one of the leading ones in that denom. ination in Wisconsin. Belolt is a beautiful and thriving city, the seat of one of the best colleges in the west, and isunder congregational control though not a sectarian institution, It seems that the people, the position and the field would be to Mr. Hamlin's taste, and the social and especlally the musical talent of his accomplished wife would be highly appreciated. T UPSET SALE AT METCALF BROS, —————— A Test Oase, The circuit court at Glonwood closed yesterday morning. One case, which was concluded, is one of special iriterest. It appears that when the packing house at Malvern was preposed, one man from the east promised to put in $50,000 and build & packing house of a certain capac- ity, and on the strength of this promise scme local help was secured. After- ward the business was started by home capital and several who had subscribed refused to pay their pledgee, claiming the agreement had not been met, and that the packing house was not of the capacity promised, These uppaid sub- scriptions amounted to about $1,000, and a test case was mado against one of the farmers thus subscribing, Evidence was introduced to show that the packing house was of the capacity represented.
