Hazan, Dentlat, 100 Ma'n st STREET'S SCALP. The Connty Baard to Remove Him From (ffice, But He Doesn't Remove, At the meeting of the county board of supervisors yesterday the following was adopted Whereas, S. D. Street, clerk of courts, waa required by resolution of this board, passed November 14, 1884, to make a re- port to this board on certain subjects connected with the duties of his office on or before November 17th, 1884, and Whereas, Due notice of said resolutlon was caused to be served on said Street and Whereas, sald Street has wholly failed up to this date to make any report on any of the matters s required by said reso- lution. now therefora be it Resolved, By the board of supervl sors of Pottowattamie county, Iowa, that for such failure to report as aforesaid, and by virtue of tho provisions of paragraph 10 of section 303 of the code, we do hereby remove said S, D, Street trom the office of clerk of the district and circuit courts, in and for Pottowattamle county, Jowa, and do hereby declare sald office vacant, and the sald Street removed therefrom, and we heroby authorize and order that the clerk of this board notify said Streot of the action taken hereby, and his removal, and demand and take poesession of said office, and all books and things thereto pertalning, for and in behalf of this board. Having adopted this the next actiou was to instruct the county suditor to demand the office of Mr. Street. This demand was made, but Mr. Street In- sisted kindly but firmly that he was still clerk, and did not propose to give up the office except at the end of his term, Jan- uary 1st. The board having officlally removed him, it became necessary for that body, in order to be consistent with its action, to appolnt some one to serve as elerk. Mr. J. J. Shea, who has been elsced to the office, and who would go in in Jan- uary anyway, was accordingly appointed to fill the vacancy for the unexpired term. As Mr. Street refused to give up the office, of course Mr. Shea could do nothing beyond notifylng Mr. Street that he had been duly authorized to succeed him. The couuty board passed a resolu- tion, also, granting to Mr. Shea pay at the regular rate of 83,000 from now till January 1st, instead of paying it to Mr. Ncreet, intending thatif Mr. Street holds to the office that he shall not get the pay. This action of the board practically effects nothing. Mr. Street will doubt less continue performing his duties until the firat of January when his term ex- pires. If the board should make any attempt to get out aninjunction restrain- ing him from acting, there would doubt- less be delays, so that it would nov oust him before the end of his torm, so near at hand. As to Mr, Shea he has a good thing. He has simply to draw his pay and let Mr. Street do the work. The accountant employed by the board to go through Mr. Street’s books has not made a complete report, nor has his report been checked over by Mr. Street’s books, so that the board has a definite and certain knowledge of what amount the county should claim of Mr. Street, and Mr, Street has not made the report called for by the board. The fig- ures presented indicate that thereis a balance of about $,000, but as to how this may be modified by comparison with Mr. Street’s report, and by credits which he may claim, none can say. Tho board Is now talking of going through Mr Street’s books and checking them in comparison with the figures of the accountant’s report, and if a balance is found still due to proceed agalnst Mr. Street's bondsmen, unless he makes the amount good, Mr, Street's bonds amount to $10,000. —— Ask your grocer for McClurg’s self- ralsing buckwheat.
