It is an excel lent play, full of thrilling situations, and Mr. Nobles with his excellent support presented it in a manner which called forth great enthusiasm and much praise from the audience. A special feature of Interest in connection with its presenta- tion here, was the fact that Mr, Nobles generously gave it as a benefit to hls old friend, Rev. T. J. Mackey, the rector of St. Paul's church. Thero is a lively domand for revolvers, and many citizons are now going armed. 80 that elther thleves or thugs will have to jump the town or some of them will bo lald low by an attempt to rob the money man, If one or two of these sneaks were crippled by bullets it would put a atop to thelr plundering. It scems that about the only way to stop the present deviltry is for the citizens to go armed and pro- tect themselves as best they can. The police force is not large, there is a good deal of territory to cover, and when sus- picious characters or crooks are arrested they manage to get out of it easily. Every able-bodled citizen might as well, therefore, constitute himself a special policeman to serve at his own expense. A Vail correspondent of the Bulletin thus describes the situation there: At the meeting of the clty council on Mon- day night there waa considerable discus- sion on the subject of saloon license. The town used to get twelve hundred dollars & yoar from the saloons and the question is how to get it again. It doesn't take a very acnte vision to see that prohibition don’t prohibit anything but the license money. W@ THE COURT HOUSE. fbe Conutv Board Leases the M fall for Two Years, Some Perplexity Ahont What Can be Done the Priso rs, Tho county board of supervisors after consldering the various bids of those desiring to rent buildings for court and county purposes, decided yesterday to accept that in regard to the masonic temple, By this arrangement ;the room known aa the Masonic hall is to be used for a court room, while one room off from the hall is to be used for one of the jury rooms, and & room on the third floor for the other one, The large room on the ground floor now occupled by Cas- ady Orcutt & French, 1s to be used for offices, that firm intending to make a change in a month or 80, This large room is to be divided by partitions into four robms —one for the auditor and county board, another for the treasurer, another for clerk, and anether for recorder, A hall- way will run through the center of the room. These offices and the court room are to bo heated by steam, and the coun- ty agrees to pay for all, heat included, §3,000 & yoar for two years, 1t will be necessary to secure some vault room somewhere for the records, but this is nc yot arranged. 1t will also be necessary to get the board of health to give more time on it order to vacate the court house by the 20th inst., as the county cannot ot possession of the rooms by that time. The leasing of Masonic hall to the county for court purposes does not prevent evening ontertainments heing given there, as the right is reserved for these, the court not to be held these evenings when it would interfere with entertalnments, Even after the offices are moved, which will probably be in January, there will be difficulty in previding for the pris- ers. The grand jury examined the 1- again yesterday. Previous grand juries have condemned 1, so it Is only a matter of form, but the Inspection was made by direction of the judge, who sagely arked that if the court house was unsafe for officlal it was unsafe for prisoners. The county board will wait_ however, untll its Janusry meeting be fore making arrangements to dispose of the prisoners, It will be 'a great expense to move them, and 180 to board them elsewhere, and there seems to be no place near here where they can be kept. In regard to calling an election for the people to vote on the question of lssuing bonds for building a new court house and jall, the board will take no action until the January meeting. The remonstrances of 156 citizens were yestorday received and placed on file, but it is thought that by the January meeting there will be a fuller and freer expression of the people concerning an olection. The board has taken a practi- cal means of ascertaining how fast the oracks in the wall are widening. Strips of paper have peen pasted across some of the cracke, as the cracks spread these strips will break and show the gap. Some brilliant oltizens, seeing the strips thus pasted, aftor studying over the matter, and try- ing to see what the papers were pasted on for, camo to tho conclusion that the board was trylng to keep the walls from falling apart, and commsnted rather un- complimentarily on such foolishness. To ease their minds of such, the true expla- nation Is given. UPSET SALE AT MET A RAILROAD SKIRMISH. LI BROS, It Will Probably Be Settled Before ‘War Breaks Out. The Wabash railway company is now planning for a speedier ontrance into the Union depot, and is laylng a track which will make a shorter cut and easier transit for trains than that now used. At one point near the Rock Tsland round house the proposed now track crosses the old K. C. track, which is controlled by the C.,B. & Q.
