Crowley was a brakeman on a stock train, in September, 1883, and just east of Neola the train runinto a bull, was thrown from the track, and Crowley re- ceived Injuries which disables him for life. Judd & Smith, the electric belt manu- facturers, are starting two new offices, one at Dallas, Texas, which will be man- aged by W. L. Ellison, of Nebraska Oity. The other 1s at Fort Wayne, S. | which will be managed by S. T. Smith, one of the firm, Virgil Bergen, of this city, will go to Fort Wayne to be in the office there. Mr. Smith, it is saidis to take a new partner on the 26ih of this month, the fair one being one of the fa vorite young ladies of Sheboygan, Mich., Miss Cassie Corinors, The democrats are preparing for a grand hurrah, parade, jollification, ratifi- oation, celebration, etc., on Wednesday evering of next week. A committee was going the rounds yesterday securing sub. soriptions, the intention being to secure at least $1,600. As the jollification is to be 50 extensive as to bring in a largs number from the surrounding country, it will be a grand occasion for Council Bluffs, and as & matters of city enterprise many republicans will giadly help make it 8 sucoess as results now cannot be affect- ed by said demonatrations. A barber remarked to one of the Bre force yesterday that Council Bluffs bar- bers could not agree upon closing their places of business on Sunday, but at a meeting of the knights of the razor they had agreed to raise tho price of shaving to all republicans. At the request of Mr. Bee man the barber explained that the republicans usually had such awfally long faces, just about now,you know.
