See J. Reiter's new fall stock of cloths, Braniard Hiller and Henry Short yes- terday got out their naturalization papers. “Rattling bargains” is a significant sign to be seen in the window of one of the crockery stores. The Genial Four are to have a party at Beno's hall to-morrow evening, and have secured the Bavarian band. The ““White Slave” company arrived at the Pacfic yesterday, and appeared at the opera house last evening. About fifty of the Blaine and Logan torch-bearers went to Minden last night to join in the demonstration there. Ouff Johnson, who has a case pending against him for the murderous assault on MoGonigal, was yesterday before Judge Aylesworth on & change and the assault, committe near “the blue barn.” John- son was found gullty and fined $26 and costs, He went back to jail. 1. Sigler, of Boomer township, was in the city yesterday, and lost his pocket book containing $150. About an hour ta afterwards he found 1t lylng on Pearl stroet near the park, just where it had dropped out of his pocket as he passed along the sidewalk. Lucky, indeed. Loe Kuhl, the yardmaster at the trans- for, after drawing his pay and settling some bills, went over to Omaha, and re- turned on the late dummy train, Oa his | g, way to his house he was attacked by three men, two of whom grabbed and held him while one robbed him of $28. A cow strayed into a yard on Tenth avenue, and the property-owner ‘becom- ing indignant threw an ax at the animal. The ax struck one of the cows legs, cut- ting it completely off. The cow owner was paolfied by receiving $26 from the man who threw the ax, and 825 for the beef thus made. By some blunder in some of the papers the announcement has been made that at the Carlisle meeting here Saturday the speaking would be in the afternoon. The fact is that it will be in the evening, after the trains come in, so that those who come from a distance may join in and enjoy all the doings. . There has been & woman on the street corners lately giving passers-by & chance to get a five-cent dose of electriclty, she having a little Lattery. The local gath- erer of the Nonpareil atonce conceived a punnygraph about her being & “ghock- ing” woman, and the dear old grand- mother will doubtless have it in her sorap-book this morning. A wagon loaded with coal was yester- day stuck in a mud-hole in front of the court house just before the town conven- tion was called to order. One aspirant for nomination rushed out into the street to help the teamster, and of course the others would not be outdone, so they rushed too, and there was such a swarm of them that the wagon, coal and all was lifted easily. Permits to matrimonize was given yes - terday to Wm. 8. Kelley, of Hamburg, and Mary O. Welch, of Council Bluffs; Otto Miller aud Gertrade Hansen both of Minden; Louls M. Miller snd Hannah E. Bird, both of Oakland; Oscar L. Lacey and Alice Agan, both of Hardin township; Wm. Bernaner, of Council Bluffsand Maggis Muller, of Hardin township. October 1st, the Northern Pacific Ex- press company withdrew ifrom all Pacifio const points, except San Francisco, and from the Oregon & Californin railroad, east side, and Oregon & California rail- road, west side, and branches, and Ore- gon Narrow Guage lines, for the reason that the lines were unprofitable. Wells, Fargo & Co.; of course, continue on all lines whether profitable or not, so as to give the public the benefit of uninterrupt- ed express facilities. “Choral Worship” is the title of a col- lection ef new sacred music, and new secular music for choirs, singing classes and conventions, by L. O. Emerson, and published by Oliver Ditson & Co., and for sale at J. Mueller's well known musi- cal establishment. It is a dollar book containing 350 pages, of which 100 are devoted to the elements, 76 to tunes, 110 to overtures, and the rest to pleasing conoert music. The name of the author is sufficient guarantee for the elegance and perfect sweetness of the music, Officer Hurley yesterday was called on by the man Hesler, who keeps Rapps old place, to follow and arrest two men who he said had been kicking up a row at his place, and who had gone toward the insti- tute for the deaf and dumb, Hurley started after them, as did also Detective Edgar, got the men, aud came back, but the man then had concluded not to prose- cute them, The man paid Edgar some- thing for throublo, but gave Hurley the cold shoulder. The men threaten to file complaint agatnet Hesler for selling liquor, and the courts will probably get some business out of it before it is set- tled.
