The senator was very warmly received and the principal points in his speech en- thusiastically applauded. After compli- menting the peovle on the generally prosperous condition of the state, as evi- denced by the display of agricultural pro- ducts, the senator said: resent principles which the masses pro- fess, And the glamour of rogular nom- inations should only assist candidates mand, and whose character, social and moral, and whose daily life can be pointed to as an example worthy of imitation. glorious. present with a future full of hope for still other achievements, requires more than feasting our mouls upon victories others achieved. Lot us do our part as they do theirs. “Act, act in ths living present, Hoart within and God o’erhead.” Painted pictures of the deeds of Monroe, Jefferson, and Jackson will not furnish votes for the democratic party. The glories of the late war, the esta ment of the principle of universal brotherhood, and universal suffrage, will not alone provide subsistence for a healthy or long life for the republican party. There are other questions as impor- tant to as even as that ef a free ballot and honest count in the southern states. Weo have been twenty years engaged in se- curing honest elections to the freedman. The temporary and halting policy of our own party has placed dangers in the way, then a decision of the supreme court voters. Who has not noticed that the people seem easily deceived and resent not being betrayed; that they are expect- ed to reward a contempt of thelr wishes by meekly re-electing the men who dare disobey them, There would be scarcely a dissenting voice to a law REGULATING RAILROADS, In states adjoining—Towa, Kansas and Missouri—the legislatures fix passenger ratos at three cents a mile, Youdemand the same in Nebraska, That cannot be Parties are only strong whenthoy rop- | done, Why? Because you elect those |t who are owned by and serve other inter- esta than yours, You are working your farms on shares, you shall receive, the men who genero ly direct county and state and congros- sional conventions, pominate your ticket your own executioners at the ballot box. A few political attorneys for railroads, a few editora of railroad organs, well pald for betraying your interest, will not allow it. He who argues against the fraud is stigmatised as a demagogue, and he who hesitates to take the nauseating dose is denounced as a bolter. And so your PARTY LOYALTY AND ALLEGIANCE is to be used for your own enslavement to the power of corporations which like the horse-leach is ever crylng give, and can never be satisfied. Ona thing is evident—the republican party of this state must correct their wrongs or the people will take it in their own hands, An apparent concession is made to the dotermined advance in public sentiment by the railroads directing their attorneys and editors to admit there must be con- trol, but to see to it that they control in the appointment or election of a commis- by striking down trickery in conventions and treachery in congress, — PILES! Special Diepatch to the Globe-Democrat, Puinaperenia, October 5. —Peter Bear, who resides at Boone's Mountain, my agent, Mr. Guthrie, purchased them. There are only two other white polar bears in this country, which are owned by Mr. P. T. Baroum and the Sells Bros. I intend to take these directly to the Central Park Museum, and they will be nice and white by Sunday morning. The work of unloading the bears was then begun. Slings were placed around the barrels and attached, by means of a block and fall, to the rope of the steam windlass. A guy rope was then passed through the body of the truck and the end manned by a number of laborers, one of whom remained on the truck to guide the barrel, Buton the approach of the bear this workman abandoned his post, jumped over the side rails of the truck and could not be induced to re- turn. The bears were finally secured on the truck and started for Central Park. Their deep growls attracted the atten- tion of people on the street who won- dered where the sounds came from, and at Thirty-sourth streot and Third avenue an over-vigilant policeman stopped the truck, but on catching sight of the Jcon- tents of the barrels he promptly decided not to take them to the station house. Superintendent Conklin received the bears at Central Park, and they were safely placed in iron cages to the right of the lion house. o — Pile tumors cured in ten days, rupture in four weeks. The remarkable growth of Omaha during the last few years is a matter of great astonishment to those who pay an occasional visit to this growing city. The development of the Stock Yards—the necessity of the Belt Line Road—the finely paved streets—the hundreds of new residences and costly business blocks, with the population of our city more than doubled in the last five years. All this isa great surprise to visitors and is the admiration of our citizens. This rapid growth, the business activity, and the many substantial improvements made a lively demand for Omaha real estate, and every investor has made a handsome profit. Since the Wall Street panic last May, with the subsequent cry of hard times, there has been less‘demaud from specula- tors, but a fair demand from investors seeking homes, This latter class are taking advantage of low prices in build- ing material and are securing their homes at much less cost than will be possible a year hence. Speculators, too, can buy real estate cheaper now and ought t> take advantage of present prices for future profits. The next few years promises greater developments in Omaha than the past five years, which have been as good as we could reasonably desire. New man- ufacturing establishments and large job- bing houses are added almost weekly, and all add to the prosperity of Omaha. There are many in Omaha and through- out the State, who have their money in the banks drawing a nominal rate of n- terest, which, if judiciously invested in Omaha real estate, would bring them much greater returns. We have many bargains which we are confident will bring the purcheser large profits in the Platte, Burt, Cuming, y, Washington, vt sion.
