The Proceedings of the Judicial Con- vention Yesterday. Other Busi- vention, Mr, Estelle the Nominee ness of the Co The republican judicial convention of this district met in the council chambers at 6 p. m. yestorday, to nominate a can- didate for district attorney. The convens tion was called to order by H, D. Tsta. brook, chairman of the central judicial district committoe, The call was then read by Loo Estelle, its secrotary, The name of Hancock of Sarpy county was put in nomination as temporary secre- tary, who declined. Peterson, of Burt, waa thon proposed and elected. After the names of several had been proposed for secretary, who refused to Clark, of Douglas was elected. A com- mittoe on crodentials, consisting of ono member from each county, were appoint- od by the chair, Messrs. Eby of Sarpy, Behm of [ Douglas, Lewis of Burt and Chapman of Washington, constituted the committeo, Tho committee reported the following named dolegates as entitled to seats in the convention, Sarpy county — Henry Eby, John Hoover, Honry Gosch, A. The board of managers for the state fair held another meeting Tuesday at the Paxton. There were present, chair- man Barker, Secretary Furnas, and Messts, Dinsmore, Grenell, McIntyre, Jensen, Hartman, Bowen, Laughlin Barstow, Daniels, Burke and Druse. Chairman Barker reported that the railroad companies had agreed and would arrange to load and unload all stock and other freight for the fairnear the grounds by holding all the trains until the load- ing and unloadifig was done, boforo, during and after the fair, to the entire satisfaction of the board and other patrons. President Dinsmore was empowered to floor and otherwise improve hog pens for the accommodation of exhibltors. He was algo authorized to ercct on the east side of the grounds ashed building for the police, 12x48 feot. Treasurer Hartman reported that the county commissioners were draining and otherwise imoroving the street, or road- way, immediately east and in front of the grounds, Superintendent Bowen was authorized to drain and fill up the water- holes in front of the offices, The board met again in the afternoon. Mr. Cochrane, superintendent of swine class, notified the board that it would be impossible for him to serve and Robert Temploton of Tekamah, was appointed to fill the vacancy. The secretary was directed to telograph Henry Ward Beecher and ascertain if he would preach on the fair grounds on Sunday, September 7th (the opening of fair week) and his torms. The board decided upon terms for the four-year-old Nebraska colts’ raco. The purse is $225, five to enter and three to_start, $20 stake entrance, pursos as follows: $125 to first, 875 to second, and $25 to third, The trot is to take place on Thursday, September 11. The $100 to form the nucleus of the purse was donated by a prominent citizen ef Omaha, who insists that his name be withheld. An amondment was proposed by Clark that the roll bo called by counties. The amendment was put and as thero was some confusion about the proxies no decision was reached. The roll was called and the amend- ment was Jost, The motion to proceed to an informal ballot for district attorney was then car- ried. Hitcheock the nomination of Estello was made unani- mous by the convention. The speech was a ringing vigorous one, and had none of the tone that generally attends a dofeat- od candidate.
