Everylody invited. Yesterday while comfing to his work Mr. P. J. Gorman, mausgor of Jamos Stephenson's born, mes with an accident. His team became frightonesd and broke the pole of the buggy. Mrs, Gorman, who was with her hushand, was thrown out and some- what scratched about the hewd. —Mr. Charles A. Gardner, German_dialoct comedian opened a soason in the Peoplo’s Theatre last evening in his play called **Karl® and got a good, popular reception. The hall committee which has rented Falconers hall as headxuarters from Monday noon of next week to Saturday noon following was empowered to sell the booth privileges of this place. It was further ordered that Invitations bo extended to all city of- ficials and members of the press to be present at the tournament. NEXT WEEK'S EXEROISES. From present appearances the managers of the tournament think it will eclipse in overy particular anything of lts kind over held in Nebraska., Kvery one who has a part to perform in its preparation is busy at work, intent upon making the affair a complete success, and neither the all-wook attraction at tas P:ople's, - [St. Touis Republican. e — Cream Soda at Bell's. e —— jlim Cumming and Walters. Marshal Cummings demios most em- phatically that in his arrest of the gam- blers ho is acting in any way in concert with the ex-mayor. ‘I am acting en- tirely on my own respomsibility.” said the marshal, “‘and am cserying out the gencral instructions of the council to en- force the ordinances, I havn't been to ex-Mayor Chase's house in two weeks and anybody who says I have been go- ing there tells a downright lie. I do goby way of Thirteenila street on my way home and that may make some of them think I have cailed on Chase. As to Frank Walters he don’t run me and 1 don’t ask him for advice, I propose to do my own duty the best I know how. Frank Walters also feels hurt about his name being connected with an attempt to persecute the gamblers, *'Why, 1 was the last man that wanted Guthrie,” said he. **You know I wanted Jacobson ap- pointed marshal, and I had Chase’s prom- iae that he would appaint him, I also wanted Cowin for city aitorney, and if Chase had appointed him he ~wouldn’t have gotten iuto this sorape. The only thing that I've done about the Guthrie business is sinco Mra, Gushrie called upon me for advice and help. I've called upon Guthrie at the jail several times, and I told him he had suffered enough by this time, and if anybody was Erying to make him a soape-goat it 15 his business to vin- dicate himself and let the consequences be what they may.” PERSONAL. The Prospects for the State Fair Flattering,—An Excellent Show of Crops Looked For, Hon, 8. M. Barker, chairman of the Board of Managers of the State Board of Agriculture, is in the city making prepa- rations for the coming State Fair, As directed by the Board, Mr. Barker has been conferring with the Union Pacifio, and the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha railways concerning the put- ting in of & wwitch, stocks yards and and chute near the State Fair grounds, Exhibitors at the Fair have felt the need | Absoclutely Pure. This powder never varlos. BOYaL BAKING ¥ WDER COJ and these companios assured Mr, Barton that they would be put in and every- ¢ tending to the convenience or com- fort of atock or owners would be done by them. Mr. Barker has also been buying a large quantity of lumber and has been making arrangements for putting in one hundred new cattle stalls, Heretofore the accommodations for cattle have been very insufficient, and the board intends this fall to supply all owners with the needed shelter for their stock. The cattle show for the Fair promises to far surpass all others in point of num- bers. On the 3d of this month 103 of the 140 cattle stalls had been engaged, and orders have been coming in daily since. The horse stalls are now more than half taken, and the managers think they will be crowded for room for these olasses. Mr. Barker says there are more entries already made in all classes of ex- hibits for the coming fair than have been made for any one iu tho last five years on Sept. lat. The work of building and room for stock will all be completed one week before the fair, thus avoiding the annoyances of previous years, N The prospects for a successful state fair the managers say were never 8o great as at the present time, | — Ladies should reflect before using any preparation that isapplied to so delicate surface as the skin, Any cosmetic will at first impart a beautifying effect and not apparently injure the skin, but in a very afinrt time little blotches and discolose tions appear on the face which conclu sively show the poisonous drugs in_ that com position, It can bo safely said the more than two thirds of the face powder contain these injurious ingredients, Poz zoni’s medicated complexion power is not only absolusely free from all deletoriour matter, but its principal ingredient is an active curative for all diseases of the skin. It has stood the test of years. Sold by all druggists. me-eodyl e e— A New Summer kesort, At the corner of Fifteenth and Farnam streots a large lake of water was formed by the heavy rain yesterday. Charley Goodrich placed upon the bosom of the waves somoe decoy ducks. Ho then stuck a fish-pole in the water, After the above work was accomplished Mr. Goodrich and John Drexel procured acouple of toy guns and amused them- selves by banging away at the ducks. It occagioned considerable amusement in that end of town — A _Great Land Sale. Negottations are now pending for the sale, by the Union Pacific railway com- pany of 1,200,000 acres of land, 600,000 of which have already been sold, This land is all situate in Wyoming Territory, along the line of this company’s road. The purchasers pretend to be a syndicate of western moneyed men, but English capital is lending its aid to the project. The Royal Baking Powder Unequaled for Purity and Wholesomeness. The following certificates from well known chemists and scientists form as strong an array of evidence as was ever given in behalf of any article of human food. Government Chemists Reports. Prof. Edward G. Love the Government chemist, says: “T have tested a package os Royal Baking Powder which I purchased in the open market, and find it composed of pure and wholesome ingre- dients. Itis a cream of tartar powder of a high degree of merit, and does not contain exther alum or phosphates or other injurious substances. E G. Love, Ph. D.” Prof. H. A. Mott, Government chemist, says: “It is a scientific fact, that Royal Baking Powder is absolutely pure. H. A. Morr, Ph. D" ‘Wi, McMurtrie, Professor of Chemistry, Illinois Industrial Univer- late Government Chemist, Department of Agriculture, says: The Royal Baking Powder has been used in my family for many years, and this practical test a3 well as the chemical tests to which I have submitted it, prove it perfectly healthful, of uniform excellent quality, and free from any deleterious substance. Wa. McMurtrig, B, M., Ph. D.” Rush Medical College, Chicago, Dr. Walter S. Haines, Profi Chicago says: “T have recently examined a package of Royal Baking Powder, pur- chased by myself in the open market, and have found it entirely free from a luteratian and injurious substances of all kinds. The purity of the c1eam of tartar enployed in this powder is worthy of special mention, since itdoes not contain the tartrate of lime usually present in baking powdars in which tream of tartar of interior quality 18 used. “H. D. GarrisoN, M. D.” i lege of Physicians and Surgeons, Chicago. Prof. C. B. Gibson, chemist, College Physicians and Surgeons, Chi- ©ago says: I recently procured a sample of your (Royal) baking powder from the kitchen of a private family in this city, and subjected it to an examina- tion. I found it so different from many of the b king powders advertisea as ‘strictly’ and ‘absolutely pure’ and so far superior, that I thought ycu would be pleased to know it, and might find use for the certificate. “In view of the vast difference and stupendous frauds that are offered to the most ‘gullible’ people on the face of the earth, :t pleases me oc- casionly to strike an ‘honest article.’ C. B. GisoN.” Kentucky State College. Dr. A. E.
