ADDITIONAL LOCAL NEWS, CAUGHT BY A OYCLONE, Detalls of the Destruction Wrought by Wind. The storm which created sad havoe here on the Fourth, caused destruction in Orawford county, some of the details of which are given in the Bulletin The first we hear of it is in Hanover township, whore it struck Horman Schultz's house and twisted it out of shape; it next struck Herman Schultz's barn and granary and destroyed them H. Wood’s corn cribs and a lot of lumber he had lately purchased for building purposes, wero scattered in all directions; he also had soveral hogs killed. Hans Hendrickson's house was moved off the foundation and his corn cribs torn to pieces. The house on Clous Ressen's farm occupied by Honry Meyer, was moved from the foundation. Sev- at home all alone, who, we understand, wisely went into the cellar, Next we hear of it is at William Good- rich’s, where it tore a barn, granary and corn cribs all to pieces. Mr. G. and family and several other partics had a narrow escape with their lives. They had boen away from home and just reached the barn with barely enou time to ]ulllp from the wagon and get side. In an stant the barn was torn all to pieces, Mrs. Goodrich, we are told, was caught under one of the sills, which fell across her ankles afd held her firmly to the ground. As if by miracle, sho was caught undernonth a splice in 'the sill, otherwise her limbs would have been crushed. She was relieved of her un- comfortablo position as quick as the tim- ber could be raised. Her injuries con- sistod only of a few slight bruises. Mr, . received a sprain of the wrist, and tho rest escaped injury. A portion of the barn blew onto the wagon, smashing it down without harming the horses. The next we hear of it, it struck the ravine on the north edge of Grace Park, but it was apparently up off the ground, as it done but little damage tothe timber, It continued up the hollow until it struck the ridge at tho edge of Claus Ever's | slaughter-yard where it tore onta tew panels of fence and carried off a gate. Hore is where the town people first be- camo awaro that one of those terrible cyclones was about upon us. Some rushed into the streets, and others into cellara and caves. lts appearance was 50 sudden and unexpected that the course had not bsen discovered, and a great many were of the opinion that it was coming straight through the town. This fearful suspense lasted only a fow mo- ments, when it became evident that it was moving in a southeast course and had already passed town. It continued bobbing up and down and the end curling around like an elephant’s trunk, leaving its mark wherever it struck the ground. It went over the hill at the bend of the road just west of the Smith Brother's, scattering things pretty lively, and continued on down and scross the river and timber north of Mr- July 9, 1884, and reported for Tue Brr by P.
