ADDITIONAL LOCAL NEWS, END OF THE RACES. The Sport at the Driving Park Winds Up Well At the driving park Saturday afternoon the attendance was as large or larger than on the previous day. The track was in fine condition, and the day will be long remembered as the one on which the fastest time ever made on the track—2:10} —was recorded, as pac- ed by the wonderful Westmont. The storm interfered greatly with this meeting. Otherwise it would have been the most successful in all respects of any meoting ever given in Towa. The Coun- cil Blufls association is becoming known far and near, and the horsemen always going away so well satisfied with the treat~ ment they receive, that it is easy to get them to come again. The officers of the association here worked hard and against great odds, but they have won, in some respeots at least, even if they have lostin others through no fault of their own. Financially, despite the stormy weath- er, the association aside from the loss of its building, will come out a little ahead. THE CRUMBLING CHURCH. An Attempt to Prove that Broadway Methodist Church is Still Sste, In conversation with Rev. J. Z. Arm- strong, the pastor of the Broadway Methodist Church, Tue Bee learned that he and his people were quite stirred up about the recent order of the board of health condemning the butlding as un- safe, and that no more meetings should be held there. He deems itan in justice, and jproposes to have a num- ber of architects from here and elsewhere examine the building. At present the congregation will worship in Dohaney's new opera house, although at the time an attempt was being made to raise money for completing that building, Mr. Arm-, strong spoke quite bitterly) against the enterprise. rvices were held there yesterday. Mr. Armstrong says that the change of the meeting place is due not to the fact of his considering the church unsafe’ but because it would be almos, imposs ble to get people to go to the church, safe or unsafe, after it had been condemned. He thinks that prob- ably the services will be held in scme other place temporarily until a new church is built. Soon after the church was built, this corner settled considerably, causing ugly cracks in the walls about eight feet from the corner. In 1878, Mr. N, W.
