Bowen writes from Des Moines that the Pilcher Electric Light company of Council Bluffs, of which he is presi- dent, will probably be consolidated with the Citizens' Electric Light company of | Des Moines, and that it is expocted by this move that the stock will be brought up to par. It seems that Mayor Vaughan expected that the council will make the mayor's salary somewhat in proportion to other officers and the mayors of other cities, and hence expected to give up the office of justice, but with a salary of $600 a year as mayor, he can hardly support a family, keep a $50 clerk and buy many rfHE DAILY BEE. P W In yesterday morning's Brr there ap- peared an account of some of the charges made against a ticket broker named Ed- gar, by those who had bought tickets of him and had found that his orders for re- bates had not been honored. It was sup- posed that he had skipped as he had not been near his office for three days, and the other occupantsof the officesaid they knew nothing of his whereabouts, Yes- terday morning he was at his office again, and ready to attend to business as usual, He said he had been sick and not able to got down to the offico, but had no reason to offer for not sending word. Freight, It was discovered yesterday morning that thieves had broken open a freight car on the C., B. & Q. track and that a quantity of goods had been taken out. Some boxes of goods for John Beno & Co. were broken open and a quantity of handkerchiefs, towels and other goods in pasteboard boxes were taken out and carried wway. The thieves evidently had more goods than they could carry away, and they left some of them in Ritchie Bros.’ lumber dyln‘l, where they were afterwards found.
