They were reviewed by our citizens gener- ally with goneral interest and not a littlo pride, for the fine uniforms and regalia of thoso taking part set off the manly forms of the marchers in a very flaitering man- ner. At 9:30 the Hibernian Rifles, headed by the A. O. Hibernian rifley in full uniform, divisions from Council Blufts with band, visiting di- visions from Dunlap and Plattsmouth, and Divisions 1 and 2 of Omaha, The line of march was as follows: From Masonic hall south on Sixteenth street to Douglas; east on Douglas Lo Tenth; south on Tenth to Ifarney; west on Harney to Fifteenth; north on Fifteenth to Farnam; east on ¥arnam to Tenth; north on Tenth to Douglas; west on Douglas to Sixteenth; north on Sixteenth to Izard; countermarch on Sixteenth to Masonic hall, Shortly after 2 o’clock, in the presence ullplua of u crowded atttendance, the oxercises not She used two Bottles commenced at Masonic hall, the platform of which had been appropriately decor- to Erin,” “Killarney,” beautiful bouquet. young girl, with timid but g ures, gave & very pa svery Instanco, or money refunded. succession. woamad to striko the popular chord, and was | frequently applanded throughout, MORE MUSIC, After a pot-pourri of Irish airs by the Hibernian band, including **‘Come Back “Kathleen Ma. vourneen,” * Cruishkeen Lawn,” and “Harp of Tara,” Miss Mary Murphy ap- peared, and pleasingly rendered ‘‘Come Back to Eri Being recalled, sho sang “Killarney,” and was the recipient of a Miss Mary Rush, a coful gest. tic recitation of Brothers,” which was roceived with much applause, Kho wna followed by h sinter Maggio, a_cute little pickan Wi “The Two ‘nny, sang, amid much merrivtent, ‘‘Buckles on Her Shoes,” and buing enthusiastically reealled, gava “The Cowsare in the Corn” in a manner that would have made Annio Pixley jealous. “Tho Handful of Earth,” a duet by Mirses Carey and Claflin, was much applauded, and the musical portion of the entertainment re- ceived a fitting finis by the vocal quar- tette of the Omaha Glee club in ¢ Save Treland,” and the quickstep *‘Echo of the West” by the Hibernian baud. People living in the vicinity of Tenth and Dodge streets wero startled last evening about nine o'clock by the re- ports of three pistol shots fired in quick It was thought another one had been added to the number of Oma- ha's tragedies, but investigation proved that such was not the case. Near the hour above named a crowd of men and boys were engaged in drinking and con- versation in John O'Connell’s saloon on the west side of Tenth street between AN INHUMAN WRETCH. fie Pases His Tine i Besting His Wife of Loss Than a Year, His His Wife's Friends to Threaten a Disgraceful Treatment Causes Coat of Tar and Feathers, Tho young man spoken of in the Sats urday ovening Bre as having brutally whipped his wifo, is none other than John W. Lauer, socrotary, treasurer and manager of the Omaha Nail . Manufao- turing company. It has been the common practice of this man to beat and abuse his wife, commencing almost before the orango blossoms had been cast aside, and con- tinuing until Friday last, when he capped the climax by whipping her in a most brutal manner, after which he left the house. In May last John Lauer was married to Miss Sallie Goetachus, a young lady of noble qualities, and as sweet a tempered girl as was ever permitted to enter the holy bonds of matrimony, at least that is the reputation given her by her friends. Scarcely two months had elapsed when Lauer commenced his tyranny and abuse and it becamo so strong that his wife in- formed him that she could not stand it longer. His hard heart was somewhat molted by this declaration and ho agroed to do better and begged for a trial of one month, promiging that he would, at the end of that time give to her half the property and leave, in caso he did not conduny himself properly. The matter went along and grew from bad to worse, and the little lady, was either so terrified ot ashamed that she did not say anything of her troubles, not even to her mother but quietly and weekly bare them alone. At one time in a fit of mad jealousy, he drew his revolver from his pocket and struck her in the face with the weapon, the mark of which she still carries. On last Christmas day Mrs, Lauer dressed herself for breakfast and was seated at tho table pouring the cofiee when Lauer came into the room and struck her upon the side of the head, knocking her to thoe floor. He then hanging around Barney Shannon’s saloon, corner of Tonth atreet and Capital a: nue, and while other people wero passing in and out, Ruane_slipped in and was confronted by both Barney and his bar- tender. “We wane no informers or policemen here,” eaid Barney, ‘‘so get you out of my house.” Ruane refused to %o, and Barnoy went for the trusty, rusty old sabre which hangs against the wall. Ruane finally escaped with his life, and Barney will be called upon to answer to the charge of selling liquor on Sunday, e — Toal Batate Transiors, The following deeds were filed for rocord In the tounty clerk's ofice March 15, raported for Tue Bee by Ames’ real esthis agency: junnard A.
