The Convention More Harmonlons But Less Enthusiastic Than the cratic, The republican city convention met at the court houss yesterday afternoon. John W, Baird called the convention to order at a li after 2 o'clock, a half- hour or more after the time set. Col. W. E. Supp was chosen for chair man, Ho thanked the convention, and expressed the hope that the convention would show unanimity, candor and an honest desire to put in nomination a ticket whigh tho people would endorse by a largo majority. Ho belioved the times were ripe for a chango for the bot- ter, and hoped such a ticket would be made as would meot the general desire of the people. E. H. Odell was chosen secrotary. George F. Wright moved that an in- formal ballot be taken for mayor, but withdrew it long enough for the list of delegates to bo read and agreed to. He then renewed it and it was carried G. 8 Lawson and T. J, Evans were appointed tellers, The ballot stood: William Siedentopf 12, A. T, Flickinger 11, T. J. Evans 1, Alex, Wood 1, E. L. Shugart 1. Others claim that he would carry his own party vote and that with what disaffected demo- crats he did get the victory would b his, The rest of the ticket called out little ment on the street as it seems con- that the fight will be on mayor. Siedodtopf as alderman-at-large is deem- ed strong eh to b Pettibone, who as a me.aber of a fc or council and present member of the chool board has not gained in the estimation of the peo- plo. Siedentopf has been a financi 1 stay to the ent council, while Petti- bone's strong point seems to be that h is from the Second ward, and the zons of that ward, smarting under the foeling that they have been ignored and mistreated by other councils are ready to vote for anybody, even Pettibone, under the promise that he will look after their interests, THE RUNNING MEETING.
