Special Dispatch to THE BE. Cricaca, February 15.—Board of trade markets have ruled active and irregular dur- ing the week., Prices of grain have covered a range of 3@4c, closing to-night at the lowest limit. Speculation was very large, and while mainly on local account the supply of orders from outside was liberal. The main features of corn and wheat were the covering of the ahorts of each, a slight decline and the taking of profits by the longs on every rally. ‘T'rad- ing wns largely of a scalping character, deals with that intent ranging from 5,000 to 3,000,- 000 bushels. There is a material and con- stant decrease reported in the visible supply, and the demand for export and home con- sumption is steadily increasing. The preyail- ing opinion on ’change is undentably bullish, and it is generally remarked that outside sup- port alone is needed to make higher prices a certainty. Provisions were steady. Pork rose about 70c, afterwdrds declining slightly, and lard proportionately, The clique under provisions has dropped part of its load. The present high prices appear to be sustained by scarcity | and dearness of hogs. The supply is entirely inadequate, the packing season terminates two weeks hence, and the total product is greatly below that of last year, Dry gosds are active for the season, prices buoyant and higher, and a further rise ap. fhears not improbable, especially in woolens, Uiroceries are steady and going off well. B0 Rn ik antCltcbing Rud roillnery rensrt improved conditions, A good sign that idle capital is searching for investment is the incorporation of many new manufacturing enterprises, Real estato projects especially are nunierous, large nud popular, Lanks are discounting ru.\(hli very low rates, The story that certain New York banks proposed seading gold to Europe to loan because the London rate is higher is contradicted, The demand good parsonal securities is large as ever, Al- together tho financial situation is very cheer- ing and as the year grows older every sign appears of ite being prosperous and lively. ——— GRAIN AND FPROVISIONS, CHICAGO PRODUCE.
