Yesterday morning the boys and girls were delighted to see the snow coming down, slowly but steadily, until about two inches of the beautiful stuff had cov- ered the earth. Then, notwithstanding the fact that it wss the Sabbath day,hun- dreds of the youngsters, and not a few who were not 8o young, shouldered their hand sleds and started for the hills, All day long the coasting was kept up and small sleighs and large ones, loaded with a dozen, or more boys and girls sped swiftly down the white covered inclines, while their youthful voices rang out upon the mild winter air as if to entirely abol- ish theold and time honored Puritan custom of strictly keeping the Sabbath. Property owners upon the streets where the children were cuasting shoy- eled the snow off the sidewalks, while the children as quickly shoveled it on in order to make good sliding places, and it is a wonder that pedestriaus are not killed or injured by the swiftly fiying sleighs upon the sidewalks. Children should not be allowed to coast upon the sidewalks, A number of people were also endeay- oring to make use of the snow for sleigh- riding purposes, but it was such as to but poorly answer the purposes. What it did do, principally, was to make the side- walks and crossings wet and slushy and very disagreeable to pedestrians, SHOWING OFF. A Servant Girl Steals Her Mastor's ‘Watch and Chain to Wear to a Ball, Mr. Harris, who keeps a second hand store at the corner of Tenth and Farnam streets, last night missed his gold watch and chain, and was considerably worried about its loss as it was a valuable onc, For some time past ho has had in his the watch were both gone, Mr. Harris ok her up and maybe she might have taken the watch for safe keeping. He atarted out and found her at a Bohemian dance, and around her neck was a watch chain and attached to that chain was the watch for which Harris ranged in anticipation of the promenade, and the social will be made of the fea- tures of the entertainment. The society has received permission from its spiritual director, the Right Reverend] %ishop 0’Connor, to make arrangement for s lecture, with Monsig- neur Chapel, the distinguished English prelate. The date has not been definite- ly agreed upon. This will be an event of more than ordinary interest, and it is probable that the opera house will be se- cured for the occasion, e — - Marriage Licenses, The following marriage licenses were issued last week by Judge Chadwick, to persons who had a hankering for each other: Howard Rauck and Emily Dahlsarom.
