T'he injunction suit started by Judgo Aylesworth against the city will probably be never heard of again, the matter to be dropped, as predicted by Ti Bk, The Omaha board of trade is chron- icled as dying or dead, Council Bluffs’ body of like name seoms to be also gasp- mg. It should be revived if possible, The pork packing season is to be open in a week or so. J. T, Stewart is ar- ranging to kill from 1,000 to 2,000 daily. The council has “rejected the claim and now a suit will probably follow. At the Turner fair in Dos Moines Saturday night there was a lively contest over the awarding of an elegant easy chair to the most popular business man. W. R. Vaughan carried off the prize, re- ceiving b11 votes, the next highest being 483 for Mr. Grefe. The chair netted the society between $300 and $400. The man Myers, charged with assault with intent to kill, and who has been kept in jail here for safe-keeping, was taken to Carroll connty yesterday for trial. It is olaimed that he get jealous of ancther young man who was spending the evening with his girl, and taking a whiffletree he broke up the tete-a-tete, and almost broke up the fellow. At the coming Catholic fair an elegant gold watch, valued at 8250, is to be voted to the most popular assistant yardmaster, the following being the candidates: Jas. Wesley, C., B, & Q.; Pat Cody, U, P.; West Johnson, C. & N. W.; Lawrence Downs, C., M. & 8t. P.; Hank Negress, C., R. L & P. The watch 18 now on ox. hibition at C. A little fellow yesterday afternoon was run into by a dirt wagon, on Pierce street near Glen avenue, and was picked up supposedly in a badly injured condi. tion. He cried, and took on a good deal, but as some bystanders picked him up to to put him in a wagon, the httle fellow, fearing he was w0 bo taken to a hospital or some othor place rather than home, concluded he could walk, and bounding out of the wagon to the surprise of all, made a lively run for home, - One of the quoens of the dugouts took much of Chief Field’s time yesterday in telling him her grievances, She claimed that her husband had charged her with loving not wisely but *“two” or more well, and they had had a fuss, The hus- band insisted on hanging around there and uning the mcnoymfhu earned by 'llw, o being o hard drinker. The FEdison incandescent system of clectric lighting, as now perfected, is at tracting the attention and commanding the admiration of all enlightened nations, Itis rapidly being adepted in depots, theatres, factories, public institutions, stores, residences, offices, etc. Many towns and cities have formed incorpor- ated companies for the sale of the light to the general public. It should be borne in mind that there two systems of electric lighting—the arc and tho incandescent, The arcis a ight of great intensily, concentrated in one small spot, is constantly changing in color and intensity, and is very trying and injurious to the descent light, as introduced by (he E son company, is a small, soft and steady light, equalin illuminating power to a gas jot of the best quality. It can be conveniently attached to the gas fixtures, Consumers, therefore, may have as many lights as gas jets, more or loss. The Edison system is now being intro- duced into Towa, It is in use in the An- imosa penitentiary., Warden Martin speaks very highly of it, that it is cheap- er than candles or oil, and far better than any known arti light. Companies have lately been formed in Des Moines and Davenport, for the sale of the light to the general public. Mr, Penwick, treasurer of the Davenport company, says: “The light is giving porfect satis- faction, and “is much preferred to gas or any other light; that it is sold to stores and dwellings much lower than gas, is paying a good profit in the investment, and that the stockholders are more than satisfiod with the enterprise, The Da- venport Gazette uses it exclusively and is outspoken in its praise, that ‘it is the light of lights.” Throughout the eastern atates, and in foreign countries, it is fast displacing gar. We would not substitute arc lamps under any consideration, nor would we use gas, owing to dangers of explo- sions and fire,”—Beaty’s Organ and Piano Factory, Washington, N, J, " *‘Contrasted with gas, or any other light, it is the best known."—Harrison Woolen Mills, New- burg, N. Y, ““Itis a much better light, and much cheaper than gas.”—Brooklyn Sugar Refinery, *‘My experience has been short, but in_my opinion it will run out every other light.”—Rodgers Flour Mills, Appleton, Wis. Among the many other letters we name the following: Now York Herald; United States Rolling Stock company, Urbana, Ohio; Prospect House Hotel, Adirondacks, N, Y.; Thur- ber & Co., Greens, N.
