They play well, but hardly up to the former band, which won su favor here. A woman named Cora Holmes was lodged in jail yesterday for being drunk, she being found on Broadway in a do- plorable condition. As soon as sho was sobered she was lot out, it appearing that her husband was sick, and in a very crit- ical condition. The Republicans held a ratification muetilg last evening, at which Congress- man Horr was the principal speaker. The crowd was large and enthusiastic. The speech was one of tne wittiest and most taking delivered here during the campaign, The conspiracy of blackmailing cases were us before Judge Aylesworth yester- day and continuance taken till next Fri- day afternoon. It is claimed that some important evidence has been obtained by the prosecution, which will show up the whole of a very interesting but dastardly transaction, B. J. Donahoo and the Coyles, neighbors, broke out again on election day, and now Donahoe has a broken nose and other acratches, which he shows as evidence that he was the one assaultod this time, and has sworn out warrants for the arrest of the two Coyle brothers on a charge of assault and battery. Jus- tico Schurz is to dispose of the cases. Justice Schurz on eloction night, Tues- day evening, joined in marriago James Foster, an engineer on the Wabash road, to Miss Ella Gregg, the ceremony taking place at the home of the bride in this city. What They Needy— The contributions continue to come in for the Home of tho Friendless, and yat there is room for more, and need for moro. Yesterday J. C. Hoffmayr & Co. donated $10 worth of flour, and H. P, Niles contributed 8156 worth of paint- ing and wall-paper on the new addition to the home, on which work is progress- ing as fast as it is possible to secure the means, This evening there is to bo a supper and musical entertainment at tho Baptist church for the benefit of this institution. Tho tables will be et from 65:30 o'clock on, so that business men and others can, instead of going home to tea, moet their families there, take their lunch, help the cause along, and get back to businoss with no loss of time. Holtes, the well-known artist, is progrossing finely with his work for the new opera house, and while tho designs for scenery, ctc., aro not completed in finish, yet suflicient is already shown to indicate that the opera house will be in this respect be equal to any in the west. Among those, yet incomplote, is one which will excito spocial inierest among Council Bluffs people. It is a represen- tation of the early days, when this coun- try was owned and inhabited by the red sking, The view is from a point on the bluff immediately back of the city, where the Indian war council of the Pottawat- tamios was once held, and overlooks the thin scrubby flat, and across the Mistouri to the bluff on the Omaha side. This scene will doubtless attract the attention of all who are interested in the history of Council Bluffs, There are 24 different sots of draw curtains which contain some vory elegant foreign and domestic scen- ery. The designs are well laid out, and among the most beautiful is one repre- senting a moonlight scenery, wherein tho mo()nlifiht reflected from the water below is lifelike enough to enthuse lovers, The title work above tho parcade is well exe- cuted and finely finished. In the center of tho arched space above the parcadeis a fair represontation of the firmament; this is surrounded by different designs and tile work in a va- riety of colors, Tho sconory is such ns can bo adapted to tho wants of any opera company, and on any occasion. The reports from the county towns show that the county will go several hundred Republican majority. The election of the whole Republican county ticket i3 assured, excopt the supervisors, it being thought that Messrs Phillips and Clayton are defeated. The position of Supervisor is one in which it is almost impossible to keep from stepping on somebody's toes and the polls afford a chance for such to get oven. The following towns report Republican majorities: Conter 77, Grove 73, Hardin 9, Knox 43, Lewis 4, Silver Creek 39, Valley 64, Washington a dead heat, Wright 77.
