See Joseph Reiter's fall goods. Cheap Railroad Tickets at Bushnell's, The council will try to meet again Friday ovening. There is talk of having the fair grounds lighted by electricity. There was a picnic of young folks in Palmer's grove yesterday. Chamberlain Bros. are to ness factory on Fourth strect. iiid a har- Governor Hendricks is to speak in Council Bluffs on September 11th. The Plackert case is to come up hefore Justice Abbott on its sixteeuth contin- uance to-day. The ladies of the degree of Rebeka, I, 0. 0. F. have a social this evening at the residence of Wm. Keeline. There are now ten houses in Council Bluffis selling whisky at wholesale. Pretty strong for & prohibition state. The necessary permit to wed was ye: terday given to Frank B, Manley, of Persia, and Alice Deror, of Newton, Frank 8. Pusey, P. J. McMahon, Geo. C. Brown and Bert Evans, are now off’ "DAILY BEE. for Sioux county to slaughter chickens. The school buildings needing tho im- provement are tobe furnished with new seats and desks before the fall term opens, A young man named J. 8. Peak, of Beatrico, Neb., was yesterday fined for gotting too full whilo ‘visiting the Bluffs. Albert Maxwell, of Oakland, who was recently sent to the insane asylum, is now out, and_is quite sick at his father's, at Chariton, Towa. AnotherFcomplaint has been lodged agaitist M Brown, for keeping a house of ill fame. Also against the ewner of the property for renting it. Officers Brooks and Cusick were at Harlan yesterday, called as witnesses be- fore the grand jury in a horse stealing case, they having captuved the prisoner in Omaha. A man named Sullivan was arrested by Officer Muller yesterday afternoon, on lower Main street, for being ugly and R BN L ek el dbwh on the bottom of an express wagon, and thus brought in. Two white boys aid one colored. aged about 14, ran away from their homes here a fow days ago, stealing a ride in a box car to Avaca. One of the boys has got enc of it and returned. Tho others afostill at large, Last evening two young men named Mallon and Allen were arrested by Con- stable Chatterback for fighting on the street. It appeared by witnesses that they were scuffling for fun, and they were promptly let go. While Mr. Mandel and his son were calcimining the ceiling of the Presby- terian church yesterday the scaffold fell, giviuf them both a tumble of about four- toen feet, and yet no bones were broken. Two pews, however, were smashed. Mrs. Baswitz and her daughter crossed to this side from Omaha yestorday and began peddling, but were soon arrested for not naving a license. They made quite a_hysterical scene in court, and were allowed to return home by paying the costs. The iron work on the new city jail is now being pushed along. There are three cells on the first floor, about six by eight feet each, and one steel cell four by eight foet. On the upper floor thero are to'be three cells also, two of them twelve by sixteen feet, and one ten by sixteen feet. Marshal Smith, of Des Moines, arrived here yesterday after the young man Ran- dall, arrested on telegraphic orders. It appears that the young man is wanted, not 8o much on account of the board bill he skipped, as on account of a series of alick ufi.u;;.l.iug,, for which he is to be called to account. The officer left with his prisoner on last evening's train. The colored folks are bending thuir en- ergies to get enough means to build a church on the lot they recently pur- chased on Sixth street below the broom factory. A. Miller is tho pastor and Frank Praylor is the secretary. The work of soliciting funds for the church building being pushed forward zeal- ously, and it should be encouraged by prompt and generous giving on the part of those'pproached, Another exciting feature has been TEARING THE TIES, Four Pictures of Doy ness Shown up Ir estic Unhappi- e Court, A number of the divorce cases have al- ready been disposed of in the circuit court in a manner satisfactory at least to the plaintiffs, Alice Stream, who was married to Wal ter Stream in October, 1860, was released from the matrimonial bonds. She charged her Walter with some very serious mat- ters, He had abused her, and pulled a revolver on her. He had, moreover, failed to provide for her as a husband should, and had finally deserted her altogether. She also claimed that he had become so lewd in his habits that he had physically become unfit for association with any pure wife. The knot couldn’t stand the strain of all the facts and it was broken, Sarah Hickman vs. William Hickman was another of the divorce cases, it being brought here from Avoca. The parties had been married about twelve years but the husband deserted her seven years ago. She was given her freedom. Jennie Palmer sought also to be re- leased from William E. Palmer. They were married in Logan in 1881 and she claimed that he had not only fai provide for her but that he had bec 80 enamored with one Anna Lockwoc that he had left his wife for her. The bonds wi W his am A. Pierco sought release from They were married in Law- ed him > from since deserted him, which entitle in the court’s mind to a relea further matrimonial obligations, e ——— Address, L. B. Corn Cobs for sale. Cousin's, box 109, city. SLY CUPID, in Front of' he Court House, A fow days ago o gentleman and lady, both strangers in the city, and hailing the clerk's oftice here for leave to wed. A licenso was granted them and the gen- tleman asked the deputy elork if ho they could get the ceremony performed at once, they sceming to be in great haste. That official, with usual urbanity, started along the hall with them, intend- ing on reaching the front door of the/ court house to lmiul ont to them the de- sired directions. As they approached the front door, the ldy sprang back in apparent fricht, and hurriedly asked the guido if there was not some rear door, by which she could get out. She was told that there was, and so she started for it hurriedly, followed brid She cxplained in as ladylike o manner as her excited condition allowed, that she had just got a diyorce, and that she saw a man standing in front of the court house whom she woald not have see her know anything about. it for a thousand dollars, The newly licensé couple hur- ried out the rear door of the court house and through the rear fence, going ncross lots to the next street, and then off for a minister, while the mysterious man watching in front waited in: vain, Just what relation he boro to her has not leaked out, but whatever it e, it is too late for him now to enter any protest, for before the setting sun the woman who had tried matrimony once, and who was bent on a second experiment, had been duly wedded and was on_the train with her new husband whirling on to- wards their home, S B Dr. Weost, dentist, 14 Pearl strect. Everything possible is being done to ensure the success and enjoyability of the excursion over the Bioux City route to ggmt Lake, August 17. The tickets are for the round trip, the tickets good for ten days. A chair car is to be usdud to the train for the accommodation and comfort of ladies, A number of gentle- men and ladies have already expressed their intention of going ow this trip, and many from Omaha will go. The chance to enjoy such delightful recreation at such cheap rates should be improved by all who can do so. J. W. A BRIDE IN A BLOUSE, Being of Romantic Bent She Wore Trousers and Worked as a ‘Woodchopper. » PR Victoria Post. About six or seven weeks ago the steamship from San Francisco brought number of hands from the railway works at Yalg. Among the number were two who seémed to be much attached to each other. The elder was a man of about sixty, quite plain in appearance, but evi- dently o well educated” gentlemen. The young one appeared to he about sixecon years of age, with a remarkably winning face, wearing a large hat, drawn well over his eyes, small hands and natty little foet With the party these two left this city for Yale, and immediately commenc- ed work on the rond, the supposed boy doing his share of sawing and chopping with the rest, and gining many - friends by his gentle and unobtrusive manners, After about ten or twelve days the elder of the two friends became sick and he had to be removed to the hospital, where he was followed and nursed by his de- voted little companion, The medical at- tendant soon discovered, however, that the supposed youth was a young lady and the wife of the sick man = She was immedi- ately sont to the house of a lady residing at Yale, where, after discarding her mas. culine attire and assuming moro befitting fnrmouu, she disclosed the fact that with her husband she had eloped from San Francisoo, wheee her father. sud aten. mother resided. her choice, and wanted her to accept the attentions of a man she disliked. Her lover persuaded her to leave home, and after boing married they took the steamer for Victoria—the young wife disguised as a boy in order to elude pursuit, The enthusiasm and admiration of the rough men with whom the young lady worked knew no bounds when they loarned that their quict littlo companion was a girl, and that she had endured the hardships of a camp lifo in_order to be near her h\lulnun'. The husband re turned to San Francisco a fortnight ago, leaving his wife with some kind friends at Yale, Having secured a_house and furnished it, he wrote for his young wife to come, and the brave littlo lady arrived down by the steamer R.
