The case of the state vs. Paulus Blecket, for assault, was the subject of a strong and very loud discussion in Justice Schurz’s court yesterday betwoen Attor- neys Sears and Lindt. One reason as- signed for the talk being 0 loud is that the defendant is deaf dumb and the attorneys were trying to make him hear. Lindt came out and got the case continued until the 9th. The sidewalk along the east side of Main street has been narrowed from twelve feet to ten feet, in accordance with the late action of the council, in order to give greater breadth to the street. Some of the property owners on the west side object to narrowing, however, and still ‘maintain the full twelve feet. This may cause trouble. The communication of ourworthy citizen Col. During the onr just closed its enrollment has reached to a about a hundred pupils, pretty evenly divided between Prof. Slattery and Mrs. Kelly. The management as well as the instruction of Prof, Slattery has proved excellent, and he has shown the happ: gift of inspiring those under him with some of the enthusiasm in study and courteousness of manner which so charac- terizes his own life.
