Old settlers say that they saw some- thing of the kind in gone by, but ineredulous laugh and wag their heads de years people vely at it. But, to come to the point, Omaha had a fall of rain during the night, and another early yesterday. It is not necessary to describe what' rain is, Web- ster says “It is water fallingin drops from the atmosphere; the descent of water in drops from the atmosphere.” Whether this definition is correct or not we cannot sy, a8 rain is so seldc \ seen here, but we judge from all accounts that it is and that it was a shower of rain which fell Tuesday night and yesterday morning. The storm Tuesday began about mid- night, a few drops “falling from the at- mosphere, at first, followed by a great wmany drops, descending from the atmos- phere” all at one n was a grand sight and much surprise wa® felt by those who happened to be out in the “‘atmosphere,’ that the *‘rain" penetrated even through the thinnest garments. There was also a good deal of hail, and it was big hail too, varying from the size of a pl?unn s egg to that of a walnut and even er., The streets looked like they had been sprinkled with big white marbles, and considerable damage was done by breaking glass windows and ..k,-iigm.
