fHE DALY BEE-COUNUGL BLUFFS IOWA MONDAY MAY 23 ey esa————eepe—— [ — L ——————————F The Daily Bee. | B2AVARIAN BLOOD. W OOURNCIL BLUFFS. {1t Boils Over with Jealousy and Monday Morning, May 28, Oauses a Murderous WUBSORIPTION RATES: Assault. , = = = = = 90centsper week, - - e 2 e = §10.00per Toar, [ Omce: No. 7 Pearl Btreet, Near jared, and the Assailant Lodged in Jail. READY FOR BUSINESS. Sherlff Hamilton, of Oarroll county, yesterday brought a prisoner to thie olty, named Sebastlan Meyer, and lodged him In the county jall to awalt trial on a charge of assanlt with intent to commit murder, It seems that Meycr came to thla country from his native Eavarfa about three months 8go. On board the same ship was a young girl, who was coming hers with her mother, her passage money having been advanced by a young man named Baker, llving in Carroll county, aud who had been over here a year or more, This young man was the be- trothed lover ot the girl, but on the voyage the prisoner, Meyer, fell des- perately In love with her. After reaching here Meyor stood but lttle show, the betrothed lover naturally claiming the girl’s time and company. Moyer and Baker had a little row over the girl a fow weeks ago, the for- mer Insisting on taking her to the nce, while her betrothed ohjected. week ago yestorday Meyer was In this city, and left on the evening train for Oarroll, It seems that he pro- ceeded directly to theglrl's house, ar- riving there in the evening, and see- ing a horse and buggy standing out- slde, naturally concluded the lover was Inside the house with the glrl, Palling off his boots and arming him- solf with a whifflatree,ha stole quietly into the house andreached unobserved the happy pair, who were otanding talking in the hallway In the dark. He ulfiad the girl by name, asking if 1t was she, and on recelving an aflirma- tive answer, struck at her with the whiffietree. The blow, {Inatead of falling on her head, glanced and struck her shoulder, oausing & very severe wound and brulse. He then struck her young lover across the head with the same weapon, causing a bloody wound, tearing the scalp for several Inches, but not fracturing the skull, After the young man fell he pounded and kicked him, causing other Injurles. He then skipped out. The affair was kept quiet until Tuesday night when it was thought that the wounded man was dylog, and a physiolan was sent for. Sher!ff Hamllto rtod in search of the jealous assallant and sncceeded in finding and arresting him, It i claimed that Meyer has served one or more terms In the old country and that on account of another sorape there he left for this country, and that he is In general ‘“‘a bad one.” Heo admitted helng at the house and having a whifflotree In his hand, but says that he took it because he was afratd of the dog, and wanted to de- fend himself if that animal pitched into him, An Announeement of Special Inter- est to Those Wishing Fine Job Werk, P.
