How & Bank Burglary Grew Out of a Key-hole—8till Another Kes- urrection Seneation Spotled A soneational story was started and galned quite wide-spread circulation, that an attempt had been made tc burglarize the Oitizens’ bank. The report was a little later reduced to the fact that an attempt had been made to secure an entrance into the unceeu pled building which has lately been vacated by tho Citizena' bank, it hav- ing removed into its new heacquaricrs in the Shugart block. Why burglars should care to enter tho empty build- ing could be accounted for only by tho fact tha. the sign of the bank wae atill over tho door, and the burglars did not know of the removal. A hole was shown in the door, in corrobora tion of tho fact that the fellows hac roally bien at work there, There were scores of oit z3na who viewed remains, and even Clark, the elon gated scribe, was duped into belleving that bank barglars were not sharp enough to know an empty building rom an oceupied one, and wroto op i glowing aceount of tho sttempted crime. The fact Is that the holain the door was msde in fisting ona Y lock a fow inches above tho old I and when the bank foik moved they took the lock off, exposing the hoie, and thus lonving an unused koy hol: out of which the burglary sensaiicn erept. Still another sensation has served for & sweet morsel for the gosaips tc roll under theie tongaes. The ro port was spread up and down the street that 8 woman who was lately taken to the cemetcry was found not to be dead, but in a trance, and vhat she was bronght back to her home, and was resucltated, This story gained almost as wide a circulation here as the other, and the namo, date and details were told wo positively that many belleved there was something to it, but it has less foundation even that the keyhole bur glary, there sceming to be not even a single factout of which any such story could be spun, Vigor, strength and health all found in one bottle of Brewn's Iron Bitters, o — When you feel out of sorts, have the blues, melancholy, ete., it must be indigestion that ails you. The case was heard before Judge Greogory, of the circuit court for Adams county, and went to the jury yesterday (June 12th), and afier an absence of twelve or tifteen hours the jury agrced to disagree, The court 1uled that the community was re- sponsible, while they try to prove con- tributary negligence on the part of the parents. STEAM MILLY V8 WATER MILLS In the early settlemeat of the west, ons of the first enterprisce which agi- tates the people is the ercclion of & flovriog mill, Aid, as the country is now, and fow if any of the actual sof- tlers are able to go nbead, with their own means, and build & wmill, it is rarely tho case that an outaide party, but little acquainted with the resourcis of the country, desires to risk all his means in an enterprise tho result f which he has not the proper facillties to ealculate. The people being anx. tous for the mill, they ask themselves if it wonld not be well to strike a me- dam between these two extremes, and they furnish, in money and labor, a part of the meaus necessary for the eraction of the much needed mill, After deciding this in the aflirmative, the dispute then gxilu 28 to which kicd of a power 'is best suited for thetr locality; d there are always a score of old f)gies ready to theorize on the enbjbot, and without any oxperlence whffever they urge their argumonts and figures against the figures of experienced mill men, with as much tenacity as though it was 4 part of their actual knowledge, and by reason of this diffarence of opinion the object of it allis defeated, While as a mavter of fact cither kind, for all practical purposes, would b goud enough, and for better than none at all. In the firat place he says tha® to rue by water power you must boild your mill not where you please, but where the power ie, and 1 this case you are cften at great ex pense in getting gratn to tho 1ill and the flour away from it. 2, Any water power is usclees in times of high water, breaking away cf dams, releveling wheel, repairing flumea snd other accidents. In such times as those named the water power mill has to Iny atill & great length of timo and at great expense, whereas with steam powtr the mill can be lo- oated at & place best suited and near- o [est to dep ts and elevators, and thus the preat expense cf handling of grain and flour be avoided, Taoen with steam power the only troublo is in the uataral wear and tear of machinery, which is common to both kinda of mille; and that at any time he can make steam from cold water suflislent to run with in fifteen minutes, That his expericnce has proven, that in the ecst, where water power is good, that with steam he can manufacture flour at at least 25 cents per barrel lees than with water; and in the west, where water powers are very unsafe, that a greater saviug can be had with steam. 1t seerms to me that this sabject Is worthy of investigation, and the ex- perience of mill mon, if it is good for anything, should be given to the FOUNDRY.
