Saturday Mcrning, Jan. 13, e —— SUBSORIPTION RATES: 20 conte per week, #10.00 por Year, Office: No. 7 Pearl Btreet, Near Broadway. Taar Council Bluffs has had a year of great prosperity, and great ad- vanocement Is evident from the show- ings of facts and figares already given n Tax Bee, It remains with its citl- zeons and business men whother this growth shall continue, or whether there shall come stagnation and de- cline. This city has sl most unparalleled railway facil- fties,. It has many marked ad. vantages for manafacturing enter- prises and wholesale establishments. 1t remains simply for Council Bluffs to use its facilities and improve its opportunities. This city is In condition to reach out much further into the surround- ing country for businees than it has yet done and to draw trade here from amuch larger territory than is yet covered. In thus gathering in the bualness BORN TO DIE. The Frozen Body of an Infant Found in an Incompleted Builaing on Broadway. A Horrible Bhowing of the Oruelty of Bome Unknown Mother, Yoaterday morning, little Jo., six year old son of W. W, Gilmore, while playing aboat near his home on Broad way, peered Into the basement of the unfinished brick block at the corner of Union avenue and Broadway, and soeing some rags n a little heap at the bottom crawled in to pick them up. On lifting one, the little fellow was horrified at finding the body of a babe. He hurricd home with the strange story, and his parents hastening to the place found 1t was ounly too true Coroner Faul was at once notified, and with Constable Fox and & jury visited the place, and taking the little body in charge had it re moved to Mr. Morgan's undertaking estahlishment where an inquest was held. Dr. W. G Edmonds, who was called in to examine the body, teati- fied, “After an examination of the dead infant, I find it 1s a matared boy with placental attachment, of white parents, born in the past forty-eight which ought to be tributary to Coun- il Bluffs, all must concade that Tae Bee is an invaluable help, of which every business man should avail him- solf, Besides its large local ofrcula- tlon it finds its way into almost every nook and corner of & large field, east wes., north and south, where its com- petitora are almost unheard of. The wide awske and enterprising business men and manufacturers of Council B'uffs need but Jittle more than a reminder of THe Ber's ex- tenslve clrculation to cause them to realize that by no other advertising medlum can they so readily reach the trade which they are seeking. MINOR MENTIONS. =J, Mueller’s Palace Music Hall, —For diatles for 1883 go to Bushnell & Brackett's, —The Episcopalian ladies have arrangod for an entertainment to take place this evening, hours, and frozen to death sometime after delivery.” Mcr. Caruthers, one of the men at work on the building, testified that be noticed the clothes there Thursday forenocon, but made no examination and mistrusted no- body. The clothes found wrapped about the child, consisted of a plece of sn old comfortable, and well worn sack, belun%inu to some woman evidently, The child was apparently placed there msoon after it was born, and left there to freezo to death, there baing discover- ed no marks of violence, and the babe being so well developed as to indlcate that under any ordinary clrcumstances it would have had long life and strong physique. From such circamstantial evidence as could be secared, it was evident that the child was born some time Wednesday anight and almost im- mediately after birth was taken to the building and there left to die by cold and exposure The jury, consisting of H, W, Til. ton, G, H.
