A, Shepardson, the jonrnalist, who district court to petit larceny, after being tried and acquitted of a :nore grave offense in having robbed B, A. Do Laurier, a New York iraveling man, was released from the county jail yesterday afternoon. His attorneys, Mesars, Bartlett & Peckham, have been making every effort to secure this result for some days and much eredit is due them for their sucoess, It is, after all, a question of much doubt if “Shep” was knowingly gunilty of the offense charged, and his many friends 1n Omaha will be glad to learn of his release from durance vile, ~It seems that Miks Gilligan, who was recently nent to the county jail for thirty days for not leaving town, as ordered by Judge Beneke, had really purchased a ticket to Council Bluffs with the intention of leaving when arrested by the police, The ticket fa still in his possession, and but for his love of liquor Mike would have now been beyond the reach of Omaha justice, —Reserved seat tickets for the glove contest at the academy of music (Wednes- day evening, November 22d), now on sale at Huberman's jewelry store 13th and Douglas streets, General admission sev- cuty-five cents, gallery fifty cents, Re- serve your seats in time as the house will be packed. ~About 10 o'clock yesterday s tele- phone message was sent the city marshal by Mr.J. Oolonel Robert & Ingersoll's Lecture at Boyd's Opera House. A Vast Andience Told What They Must Do to Be Saved Colonel Robert G, Ingersoll, accom- pauied by Mr. Isaac B. Baker, his private scoretary, and W. B. Barton, manager, arrived in the city yesterday and registered at the Millard. There was a large reeerve of seats at the opera house before the date of the lecture, and it was evidont that it was to be one of the occasions upon which Omaha turns loose and gives tho attraction of the evening an ova- tion, A prominent aud nnusual feature of the ocension was the presence of a couple of ticket scalpers, who had bought up a large number of the best #eats in the house, and hawked their tickets at the door in the style customary at a second rate side show, This was a ditgrace and a nui- sance and something that should never be allowed a repetition if it can be prevented. The scaipers sold their tickets at $1.50 while the manage- ment was still disposing of stage seats at 81, Council Bluffs sent over a large delegation, one hundred or more per- sons being present from our sister city, Itis probable that they came with an anxiety to know what they must do to be msaved and in view of the fact that two or three of their ministers have, aftor trying to reform their hearers, resigned and left the field in disgust, it is to be hoped that some good seed was sown. As soon as the doors were thrown open a crowd began pouring in, and there was no cessation until the houso was filled from the parquette to the gallery The audience was, with perhaps a single exception, the largest over assembled to greet any speaker in Omaha, The recelpis were without exception the largest ever taken in on auy one evening in the city. The audience was not only large but a representative one, both in numbers aud intelligence. pecting to find a man badiy used up, if not dead.
