The merchants in the e lines re. port sales larger than usual at this season of the year, and buyers commencing to come in quite freely, though the volume of the busin ss up to this time has been on mail order a count and through trav. ling salesmen, Prices remain firm all around, but sre especially ro for Standard cotton productions, and ostrich teathers and tips, raw materiul in ostrich having advanced from 33 to 100 per cent., The grocery trade was fairly active, and most of the staples were firm and steady, The demand for fish is talling off somewhat and prices weakening. i3hot is advanciog, selling ut 1.8 Wholesale oigars an1 drugs ave improy- ing, and repoit males for the season very satisfactory. The advance in quinine, morphine and opium is well maintained, and prospects of stiil further advance. The produce business has been very ac- tive throughout the week and somewhat irregular, especially in fruits, The con- signments of apples, peaches, melons and tomatoes have been very large, aud while the demand was good, the sup) ly being o wuch in excess, prices have declined, and portions of some lots huve gone to waste for want of buyers, especially watermelons and tom.toes, the latter of which express charges could not be realized in some con- sigoments, erries of all kinds were scarce and in demand, Vegatables of all kinds are a drug in the market, Lewons are only in fair supply and prices advancing, selling to-day at $7.00 for choice. Oranges are in limited supply and selling at $5,00, Califoraia fruits are arriving freely and quotations maintaioed, The butter market continues to rale firm under a good local demand for choice dairy and fancy creamery. Cheese continues steady with only a moderate demand. Eggs are only fair su;ply and firm at quotations, The poultry market rules firm, with & fair demaud and moderate receipts. Meats of all kinds and lard are in active movement at unchanged prices. Fiour is in fair demand st quotations. Other millstuffs are meeting with only moderate sales; prices steady, The receipts of hogs for the past week was 27 cars, packers paying §7.60 for good, The local grain trade is quiet and prices running remarkably steady.
