Another Grand Sport Arranged by the Roadsters, The meeting of the ownmers o blooded roadsters at the Driving park on Saturday last was such a complete success in every particular that an- other “tussle” between the tyros will take place on Saturday of this week. Two races have been definitely decided on, and no attraction has been offered to patrons of the turf more plessure giving than these. The firat will be a contest botween the following well known roadaters: Harry Hornberger's Prince; Jake Schreiner’s Slocumb: Mel. Fitch's Gypsy Girl; F. A. Nash's Canada Girl and Sam Record’s Little Dave. All these horses are very evenly matched and the knowing ones say that the ekill of the drivers will n{nne decide the contest. Barnum's Jumbo in a cob- web sulky wouldn't compare in real twithetic beauty. Then Schreiner, the soldier of the legion holding the reins over ‘‘Slocumb.” Jake will make the latter como to time, if he has to cut through the centre fisld. Then Fitch wooing the speody qual- ities of the ‘‘Gypsy girl”—tellng her fortune asit wore. There are soms who say he can tell the result of the race by & mere glaves at the palm of the hand. Te will bo well to heed the *‘Gipeey Girl's ' warning in this race, for it seems to ray success. Nash with his quiet way will not hesitate to mive s pass to all competitora with his **Canada Girl,” Although undoubtedly in railroad mat- ters he would heeitato and “‘pass” al applicants for free first po: others. Record’s “‘Little Dave” will not be nting when the heats are ended and we should not wonder if thore would be a draw all around. The second trial of speed will be on to between Cunningham’s Wild Irishman and Patrick’s speedy team, This will be a most exciting race. Some say that the former name is not properly wplhd, and that it ought to be the 11d Irishman's Cunningham, Be vhis asit may, the trial of speedin this case will be terrific, as Dennis, who is a great Land Lang:ar, wants to beat Patrick because he does not pre- cede his name with 8t, instead of Al The races will commence promptly at 2 o'clock, and a small ion fee will be charged just to defray ex- nses, No one who loves to ride be- ind a fast, spirited horse or envies another that has that privilege, should fuil to visit the park on Saturday af- ternoon, There is nothing profes- sional about the matter, so that the wost earnest opponent of the turf as debased to gambling purposes can most conscientiously be t. After reply- ing to an official request, the adjatant general mays: * * * % U desire to say to you that your general con- duct and the compliment paid you by General Crook’s application for your detail, have gratifi.d me very much, and that 1 shall not forget an officer of my department who behaves in such a soldierly manner,” Col. Martin will prove of Invaluable service to Gen. Crook, owing to his extensive knowledge of the depart- rent to which he is assigned WHY HE IS COURT MARTIALED, Mention has been madoe of the court- martial called to try Col. ‘Joseph Tay- lor recently detailed to relieve Col. Martin in the department. A Wash. ington dispatch gives the following cause of the officer’s falling under offi cial displeasure: A court-martial which is likely to make a sensation in the army was ordered at the war de partment. Maj. Joseph H. Taylor, assistant adjutant general, at present stutioned at the headnarters of Gon. Hunt, department of the south, New- port barracks, Kentucky, is the officer offending. He was recently ordered to go to Fort Omaha toserve as assist- ant adjutant general with Gen. 0. O. Howard, who had been ordered there September 1st from West Point, The charges against him are insubordina- tion, and it is understood that he de- clines to obey orders because he does net wish to be associated with Gen, Howard, Gen. Sherman threatened some time ago to court-martial oflicors who sought to interfere with the ac- tion of the department through mem- bers of congress. Taylor is the first one to ascertain that he meant what he said. PERSONALS, General Orook is expected home next week. Lieut. I. T. Webater, First artil- lery, who for several years past has filled the position of professor of mil- itury tactics at the Nebraska univer- sity at Lincolm, leaves to-das to rejoin his company at Presidio. Cal. Lieut, Webster leaves a host of civil- ian friends in Nebraska who greatly regret his departure, Oapt. Bourke has got his cards already printed, labelled ‘‘Prescott A. T.” The captain is quite hilarious over the prospect of adding to his col- lection of Indian curiosities a few genuine and undoubted specimens of Apache scalps withjsquaw trimmings. Campaigning under Orook affords special advantages for such adventur- ous collectors, A Popular Young Oitizen Joins the Army of Benedicts. Tuesday Frank W. Bandhauer) one of the most popular and industrious agents of the Union Pacific land de- partment, was united in marriage to Miss Ewily Krejci, daughter of one of the best known and most highly re- spected farmers of Fill more county, in this state. The ceremony took place at the residence of Jerome Rtohek, the well known litho- grapher, the bride being given away by her brother Joseph. The golden bonds were tied by the affable Judge Beneke, who has become so popular as a tyer of connubial knots, that many weddings are postponed just to have the judge present. It is o pleasurg to a héart sick or oven a jilied outaider, fo see the gontle man- ner inwhich Judge Beneke pronounces the life sentence ‘u the matrimonial court, Then his remarks to the sen- tenced parties—they are claseical, clear, clover and really canonical. Beneke ought to be made a civic oar- dinal if such an office were created. After the wedding ceremuny was over refreshments were served most bountifully, and one of the pleasant- cst gatherings ever held in Omaha made its mark on the social record of time in these parts, The extensive acquaintance of both Mr. and Mres, Bandhauer insures one thing, that this event in their lives will call forth the kindest wishes for health, wealth, happiness and prosperity from a host of friends in Omaha, e For Rent or Sale.—A good houseof six rooms, in good repair, and lot, 30 x220, on Fifteenth street, north of bridge, Rent, $16.00 per month, Wil sell for $800.00, emall cash payment, and balance on monthly installments, Inguire at Newspaper Union, 12th and Howard. aug-4t-me Free Shipment. A successful exoursion was given a short time ago, St. Joe being the ob- jective point on that occasion, and it is probable that others will take place before the season is over.
