Tue department of public works in New York has just issued an order that cautions the public against an oxcessive use of water. Such an order would not be necessary here in Omaha, where thirsty men can always find something more substantial, Muvor Bovp says he has done the best he knew how in selecting the board of public works. He certainly had ample time for making the selec- tion and it would seem that at least one man out of thres should be from the middle or the laboring class. Avverman O, H. Jones, of Brook - lyn has been tried by two juries. One of these juries returned a ver- dict that Mr, Jones is responsible for the theft of two hundred and fiffy thousand dollars, embezzled by his brother-in-law, G. A. W, Stuart from the school fund. The other jury, which tried Mr. Jones on a criminal indictment, returned a ver- divct that Jones is not guilty of help- ing his brother-in-law rob the school fund. In other words, Jones did not steal, but he is responsible for - the theft all the same, to Oxe of Jay Gould's westrin inces, better known as the territory of Wyoming, is preparing for another political round up. But while enjoying the benefits of party supremacy it seems to us that federal office holders are not 8o shamefully abused when they are asked to assist in maintaining the supremacy which to them means con- tinuation and frequently lucrative om- pioyment.
