Behout, of Osccola, and Dr, Carley, of Mal- vern, The election of officers for the en- suing year resulted in the choice of the following: President—E. A. Guilbert, M. D., of Dubuque. Vice President—D. W, Williams, M. D., ot Marshalltown. Secretary—H. G. Griflith, M. D., of Burlington, Treasurer—J. H. Crippen, M. D., of Waterloo, A letter was received by the secre- tary and presented to the convention, from the son of Dr. Olney, of Fort Dodge, the retiring president of the association, explaming that his ab- sence from the meeting of the asso- ciation was due to a sudden and se- vere illnesa, The secretary presented a communi- cation from the Nebraska State Homeopathic Medical Association, ne- crediting as a fratornal delegate to this society, Dr. Dinsmore, of Omaha, who was given a cordial reception, The association decided to hold its next annual session in Dubuquein the the spring of 1883, Most of the day was taken up with the presentations of papers by the several bureaus, followed by discus- sions, Those who have been in at- tendance upon these conventions in the past years pronounce the papers of unusual intgrest and value, and the discussions more anmmated and in- structivo than in any previous meet- ing. An especially interesting and valuable paper was presented by Dr. Baker, of the bureav of sanitary science. The doctor advocated the sanitary regulation of prostitution, and the views presented naturally called forth a quite full and free ex. pressions pro and con, This discus- sion was of more lengthand seemed to excite more interest than any of the day, and was participated in by many. In the same bureau, that of sanitary science, papers were also presented by Dr. Patchen, of Burlington, and Dr. Bancroft, of Keokuk. Dr. King, of Eldora, chairman of the bureau of chemical medicine pre- sented a paper on ‘‘Varicose Veins,” which was very elaborately discussed, and participated in by Dra. Nixon, Brancroft, Nowell, Burns and King. Last evening a banquet was served at the Ogden house, which proved a pleasing social and festive reliet from the more laborious featuresof the asso- ciation’s doings. The association will continue and conclude its session to-day. CONVENTION OLOSHD. The Episcopalians Finish Their Doings and Adjoarn, The Appointment 01 Doans, Reso= Intion of Thanks, and Fixing the Bishop's Sulary. The diocesan convention closed its ana canons were adopted as a whole session yeaterday. The new constitution after having been subjected to a num- ber of minor améndnients, The pledges given for missionary purposes amounted to §615. The following resolutions of thanks were adopted: Resolved, That the thanks of the convention be extended to the rail- road corporations for the reduced rates granted by them to the members of the conyention, Resolved, That the thanks of the convention be and hereby are extend- ed to the rector and members of St. Paul's church of Council Bluffs, who extended to the clergy and lay dolegates their hospitality, Resolyed, That the tharks of the convention be extended to the local papers for their reports of the con vention, The bishop appointed the following as the rural deane: Northern dean- ) Kemp, D. D.; enst- Trimble; southern, Re Tlyain; central, Rev, T 3 southwestern, Rev, F. T, Webb; northwestern, Rev, H, N, Cunningham, The bishop's salary was fixed at $4,000 per year, Adjournment was taken, the next meefing to be held in Cedar Rapid on the second Tuesday in May, 1883, Two little fellows named Fugene and David Flynn, were arrested yesterday on the charge of assanlt and battery, one of the neighbors clsiming that the boys threw stones, bricks and clods at several mem- bers of the Ruby family, The boys were given due warningto behave themselyes, and were turned loose again, the case being held open for a week, Not For o Fortun “Phew, 1 wouldn't marry her if she had a fortune,” Poor girl, she'd be all right if she took SrriNG BLossoy, the best thing in the world for offensive broath, Price. 50 cents; trial bottles, 10 cente. —— ki Picked Up by Police. The book of record at the police station shows the officers to have made, during the month of May, 187 arrests, the following being the various offenses charged: Drunk 74, disturb- ing the peace 15, assault and battery 8, larceny 5, malicious mischief 2, in- son's band in trying to grab the nomi- nation by springing o convention on shert notice is denounced even by those who rather favo nderson, and who may give him a lukewarm sup- port, Others are so indignant that they refuse such a man any support at all. Concerning this call The Gris- wold Adyocate, with all its conserva- tism, suys: On all ordinary years The Advocate is in favor of an early convention, but this being an extraordinary year, made 8o on account of the amendment election, we would be in favor of holding none of our county, congree- sional or state couventions earlier than the last of July or the first of August, thus the caliing of & congres- sional oconvention for the 22d of June, just five days before the amend- ment election, does not meet the ap- proval of The Advceate or a groat majority of its readers. Then again this convention was called by secretly calling together tho committeemen and setting the date of the conven- tion only five weeks ahead, and that right in the busiest part of the whole year for the farmers. We believe had there been an opportunity given as it should have been to the press throughout the district to discuss the time of holding this convention, it would have been postponed to at least the first of August. The Atlantic Daily Telegraph urges Cass county to push forward a candi- date of its own, in the belief that neither Anderson or Sapp will get the nomination. In doing so Lafe Young distinctly declares that he is not and will not be a candidate himself. The Telegraph cluims that Cass county holds the balince of power and shall use it in favor of a candidate of it own. It saya: The contest is very fierce botween Sapp and Anderson, Neither one will go into the conventien with enough votes to nominate, certainly if Cass i8 withheld from Anderson, and possibly in any event, for we are told that it is possible Audubon may wot go for Anderson, and if that should be true, Anderson could not be nominated with the support of Cass county. The situation as it is to-day, may be summarized as follows, though no primaries have been held: FOR ANDERSON, Vote. FOR BAPP, Pottawattamie Harrison. ....... Shelby... S s 6 FOR UMAS, TABOR, Crawford . Necessary to a choice 36 votes, The only hope, therefore, that Anderson has of getting the nomination is in getting Cass county, whose votes added to the supposed 28 that he may have, would give him 37, or one more than enough to nominate. If he should get Shelby’s six votes or Craw- ford’s seven votes without Cass, he could not be chosen. We are firm in the belief that he can get neither Orawford nor Shelby’s votes at all, He certainly has no hope or prospect of getting the votes of Pattawattamie or Harrison, under any circumstances, The Harrison County News seems to be in doubt a8 to what has become of the organ to which Anderson is at- tached and under the caption *‘Is the Thing Alive?” says: Do any of our exchanges know whether the Nonpareil is yet publish- ed at Council Bluffs or has it beon moved to Washington, or the ‘“Indian Nation?” We have been sending The News regularly addressed to a paper once published av that place by that name, and besides taking the precau- tion £ subsoribo the usual quantity of x's on the wrapper, have written twico personally tothe editor (and if yet pub- lished it doubtless has one) but have received no evidence indicating life, Don't know as we could ressonably expect any courtesy from that source, but learuing in & round-about way, that congressional matters were get- ting hot in that section on account of d division of sentiment we had a desire to know, from actual evi dence, whether The Nonpareil this year was fondling, caressing and loving W. F. Sapp or was emptying ita spittoons end slop-pails on his ele: gant physical structure, I( has here- tofore been biennial in its evolutions in this direction, and a curiosity to know which way it is this year, excites our ambition to hear from the great conserver, We do not desire to be oppressive nor greedy in this matter, but merely make the inquiry hoping that, if life is not extinct and some other locality is being scourged, there might be a copy taken in this locality and the desired information be obtain- ed, It may be possible that since Tug Dyiuy Dre has materially encroached upon its opportun; out of sympa- thy for the good citizens, a policy of economy has been necessitated by which the country press, especially the emall fry, must suffer, Its established waywarduess and vibrating tendencies leave us in doubt as to ‘‘where or what is it.” Virtue Acknowledged.
