Rumored Removal of Workingmen to Balance the Political Situation, A foew days ago the master e chanics from the various points along the line of the Union Pacific were summoned to Omaha to meet the general officers of the road. This eall, at the tithe, occasionad consider- atle speculation, and the cause of the council was a matter of general con- jecture, It is rumored, and upon pretty re- liable authority, that the recent demonstration of the workingmen has alarmed the corporation officials, and the subsequent result of the city elec- tion confirmed their fears. Sidney Dillon, the president of the Union Pacific, was in the city for a week during the most exciting pe- riod followin, tne strike, and it is said that is declared that the concentration of such large numbers of men at one point was gerous to the interests of the road, and that they ought to be scattered along the line and the new shops demanded b the increasing husiness of the rms built at other points than Omaha. It is now stated that the ofticials are taking preliminary steps toward the carrying-out of this order, and that the meeting of master mechanics at this point was with a view to that end. The reports state that Denver is to havela large slice in this divislon, while North Platte, Grana Island, and other division headquarters, come in for their share ot the spoils. The recent departure of Assistant General Manager Kimball for Denver, which occurred since the meeting referred to, would seem to indicate that the rumors have some foundation, and it is probably the desire to effect the di- vision before the fall elections take place. CONFIDENCE GAME. Arrest of Supposed Highway Rob- bers—Failure to ldentify Them. On Monday night three bold rob- beries were committed in Omaha, on the public stroets, and last evening two men were arrested on suspicion of being implicated in the crime.
