LAdg@iin STOUKS A strong feeling characterized the deal. ings on the stock exchangs to-day, and a further advanoe was established, th: quo- tations made being in some instances the highest of the week. Western Union was a feature of the list, rising to 897 «n lurge transactions, Denver & Rio Grande, St. Paul, and -coal shares were more prom- inent amd advenced sharply, In the Southwestern shares, Texas Pacific, Kan- sas & Texas, and Missouri Pacific were stron: and advanced. There was a gen- eral improvement in the rest of the active list in sympathy with the advance in the L ..., above mentioned stocks. There were re- actions at intervals, but each decline “brought in fresh orders to buy, and near the dlose the highest prices of the day were current, In final dealings there was a reaction of §@§ per cent., which left the closing quotations 3@8h per cent. higher than yesterday. Events of the week in financial circles were important. Money was weak throughout, and rates for call loans ranged from 8 to 5 per cent., with erceptional transactions at 2 per cent. Clovernments were strong throughout, eNept for continued 5's, which after an early advamcs lost part of the improve. ment. Foreign exchange was firm and higher. Stovks ware strong through.ut the week and prices advanced sharply. At inter- vals there swere salee to 1ealize profits, which caused some sharp reactions, but they were all subsequently recovered, and prices for the active list in the last deal- ings showed an advance. of 2@7 per eent., led by Denver & Rin & rande, Texac Pa- .cific, Westesn Union, Missouri Pacific, \Lake 3hore, Wabash, New Jersey Central, (entral Pacific, Ohio & Mississippi, a1d Kansas & Texsas, The rise in Southern vipecialties wae marked, same of them ad- «an :ing 10@20 per cent. Umana Wholesale Machet Orrick oF Tik OMAHA Ber, Saturday Evening, March 25, Of the wholesale market dwing the past week little can be said, except, per- haps, a steady increase in the volume of bu-incss, and a greater number of buyers were present in person, with the settled epring-like weather of the last few days, is an indication that trade is« fairly opened, and the anticipated boom is now at hand, as up to this time the bulk of business has heen done through ord s, The local grain trace of the pust week is reported more active, and a steady in- crease i1. prices, to a limited extent, has ruled throughcut the week. To-day's report show the following increase over this day of last week: Wheat—No. 2 advanced 2jc; No. 3 ad- vanced 3¢, Barley—No. 2 advanced lc; No. 3 ad- vanced 2c. Rye—Adyauced lc, Corn—Advanced *2c, Onis—Advanced je. Flour —There has been a moderate home trade, and quotation prices have been well maintained, but outside of this business in this line has heen dull. Bran and chopped feed is still scarce and in demand. Proyisions are reported nu-nd), and a fair business was transacted. Produce receipts have been very heivy throughout the week and prices generally declining. Eggs—The marset is glutted, and pricesare rapidly declining, Sales have been made as low as 10}e; outside figures, 12. Potatoes—The market has been good, | 8l but heavy prospective receipts would indi- cate a decline. Prices have been ruling so high in this market that several cars of Imported S otch Champions have been received and sold largely for seed. Poultry—Scarce and in good demand. All lots sell on arrival at 13@13%c for turkeys and 12 for chickens. Butter —R -ceipts are heavier and prices weakening. 31@33c. Bewns - Owing to large importations trom Germany, prices have declined, large lots having been sold as low as $3.30. Apples are scarce and demand light. Onions ar> in fair demand and prices declining, selling from stores as low as $3.50 per barrel. Oranges—As the season advances, large shrinkage in repacking forces an advance in prices, L.emons rule steady atquotation figures, but as warm weather approaches higher prices are anticipated. Green vegetables from local gardens are in good supply. Groceries—A good movement is report- ed, particularly in dried fruits and cin goods, Prices are steady, as a rule, yet sugars have advanced {@c, and syrups 5@fe per gallon. This is princiyally on account of the present high price of corn over last year’s contracte, Dry goods, drugs, elothing and other general merchandise are reported, guo- tations and prices, as arule, well main- tained, Hogs—Farmers are shipping mare freely; receipts of 50 cars reported—is a better showing than forseveral weeks past. Lard is improving, but slowly, Packers are holding in anticivation of better prices, Brick are reported in demand and ad. vancing to wuinous prices, $16 per 1000 being demanedd for kiln count. From the present outleok for the nest three or four weeks, we should consider this a good market for shippers. Durnell, an old resident of i| Omaha, and in his time a prominent ward politician, was shot dead at the Ontario mill, in Park City, Utah, yesterday morning, by a man named W. J. Wilson, alias ‘‘Texas.” The murder was the reeult of a quarrel over threc dollars owed by ‘‘Zeke” to Wilson. Wilson gave himself up to the marshal, and claims that he killed Durnell in self-defense. The special telegram that conveyed the news to Tue BEk also stated that the camp was greatly excited, and there was considerabld talk ot using hemp on Wilson.
