Of the place of his birth nothing is known for certain ex- cept from his confession, that his father had a small farm near Bona- vem .Tabernim, and in one of the ancient . histories he ‘is mid . to have . been born /ini Nemthur. From these data and other minor incidents some writers assign - his b rthplace as the modern Bolougne- pur-lfur in France; others to a place in the estuary of the Clyde called from him Kilpatrick near the modern Duwnbarton, He himself said his father was a deacon named CUalpur- nius, . His mother was named Con- cheo, or Conchessa, whom some authors state was a sister of Saint Martin of Tours, St. Patrick’s origis nal name is said to have been Suc- coth, Patricius being the. In his sixteenth year he was seized whilo at his father's farm by a band of pirates, and with a_ number of others' was carried to Ireland and sold to a petty chief in whese service he remained slx years when he escaped a monk, ficat at Tours; and afterwards at the celebrated monastry of Lering. A Most buocessful Concert at Max Meyer’'s Music Hall Thurs- day Night. The second concert of tho second series and the fifth of the season by this excellent and painstaking organ- ization was given Thursday in Max Meyer & Bros, music ball on Farnam streot. The room was comfortably filled and the audience was composed of the best class of our music loving public who have the taste to appre- ciate and enjoy such chamber music concerts as Mr, Sauer and his asso- ciates have had the courage to give in our city. Such programmes as that precented Thuriday do not ask for that form of approval usualy termed popular. They demand some knowl: wdge aud a real love for art on the part of the listener who would give judivious attention. Oa the other hand they call for on the part of the performers requisites not readily attainable. Each partiei- paut must be to a large extent a solo 1st with the good taste and technical skill that make him superior to any desive. for personal display, whilo at the same time he must recegnize that to his hands alone is intrusted hlh: i:- terpretation ot the part to which he is fi med, Both of these conditions were filled Thureday alike by arti and the audience and the result was a highly enjoyable concert.
