Very respectfully, ANDIEW ROSEWATER, City Engineer. Death of an Old Citizen. Isaac Little, formerly a resident” of Davenport, Towa, but for the past seven years an honored citizen of Omaha, where he has resided daring that time with a son-in-law, Mr. E. ¥ Wilson, died at 3:30 p. m. February 13th, of pleuro-pneumonia, at the advanced age of 74 years. The deceased moved to Daven- port 1n 1856 and was one of the pio- neers of that region, owning a large farm near the city and being active and idustrious in building up the in- terests of that new country. His wife died eleven years ago, and the infirmities of age unfitting him for business, Mr. Little came here to spend his declining years with his children. It is very apparent at the outset if the water and decoying matter which now finds its way into the bot- toms can be intercepted by a sewer, or system of sewers, before 1t reaches these bottoms and carried direct to the river, that the great source of all the trouble sought to be overcome willat once be removed. A careful glance at the map discloses a fact in- disputable, that while there are over 4,000 acros of ground on the bluffs west of the river bottoms, there is less than 260 acres of bottom lands between the sulphur springs and Chicago street. Of this 2060 acres not more than 160 acres is in need ot drainage facilities. For every inch of rain fall in North Omaha the 4,000 acres of uplands will aggregate over 180,000,000 gallons of water in addition to the impurities collected on the way to its outlet, while the 160 acres of undrained bot- tom ground will collect but 317,000 gallons, or less than 4 per cent of the entire rain and sewerago discharge, letween 24th and 25th, on Davenport | and even this will be simply pure rain lyn. The funeral took place at 3 p. m. to day from the residence, No. 6074 North .Jeventeenth street. This is the second death in Mr. Wilson's fainily within the past week, an infunt d dying on the 6th inst. of the same disease, which thus a second time invades the household and carries off another member. Tying the Knot. Judge Beneke was summoned to the residenco of Mr. Fred. Maus, on Webster street, Monday, to per- form the very pleasant duty of uniting in marriage Mr. Gottlieb Storrs, pro- prietor of the Saratoga brewery, and Miss Minnie Buck, a younglady widely and most favorably known. The ceremony was priva‘e, but the hearts thus legaily united were none the less happy, and the joy of the occasion was supreme. Of Miss Dickinson's pic- turing of the character a great deal might be granted by way of favora. ble mention. Itis to be regretted that she was forced to contend with a severe cold, However, an effective, smooth and very enjoyable performance was given. In expression, beaaing and costume, the ‘‘Hamlet” of Miss Anna Dickin- son reminds one of Edwin Booth. The ghost scene in the initial act first developed the charm of a hai- monious and intelligent delivery when born of a nice perception of the mean- ing of the text. n thisjrespect the platform experi- ence and methods of Miss Dickinson stands 1n good stead. Her elocution is unrivated and the fine shades of thought and feeling are made to ap- pear with good power and beauty. The famous lines ‘‘To be, or not to be,” in which ‘‘Hamlet” interrogates the issues of fate and existence, were spoken with a pathos and depth of feeling that almost amounted to a rev- elation, The audience between the ‘‘Princo” and the “‘Queen,” in which she chides the latter for her perfidy, and the scenes with ‘‘Polonius,” in which the idle drivel of the old man was worried by searching sarcasm were strong iu dramatic powerand intorest. The in- torview with ‘Ophelia” was marked by touching tenderness, and, contrary to gustom, the vows of ‘‘Hamlet” were sealed by u kiss, A CARD. the city engineermay direct.
