The first gentloman was Harry Wilmot, the master of the house. Mr. Harper was not an educated man. He was wont to declare that he consid- ered the whole system of education a great waste of timeand labor, and yet, withal (and curiously ~misplacing them), he had a fancy for using long words, Shortly after the conversation with Clarence Mr. Wilmot called on Miss Harper; but before we describe the interview it will be but polite to de- seribe the lady.
