A Boarder Who Gets Caught in the Sneak Thief Racket, Succeseful Wind-up of the Catholic Fair at Do- baney's. Miscellaneous Moention, Polioce Plokups and Personal Tidbits. The district court was engaged again yesterday in the case of the State of Towa vs. Harry McGee, charged with the murder of George Washington. It will be remembered that about the 21st of last June, the defendant and Georgo Washington had an altercation, brought on by a remark made by the latter about Mo- Gee's girl. Washington, being of the opinion that she was not what she should be, forbade his girl being seen upon the streets of Council Bluffs in her company. This got to the ear of McGee's She reported the story to him and heswore he would run the risk of laying out George for such an insult, He afterwards met him and they exchanged blows. McGee was arrested, taken before Esquire Burke, where he was bound over to appear and answer the charge of assault upon Washington. He was released on bail and the next day repaired to the Ogden House. Seeing Washing- ton sitting in front of the hotel, he walked up to _him and slapped him in the face. The two men clinched and fell, Washington on top. During the struggle McGee, through some means, procured a pistol, either taking it out of Washington’s hand or pocket or one was handed him by a triend. Be this as it may, aweetho before Judge Burke, who held him to appear at some future day to answer. Ofticor Cusic arrested a man by the name of Billy Wilson for vagrancy. Buffington, who is in the employ of the extensive wholesale fruit house of Erb & Du- quette, and took from the washstanda valuable ring. It seems that Buffington was in the habit of removing the ring from his finger (as it is a hair ring) when making his toilet. On theabove occasion he went down t> breakfast, forgetting to replace it upon his fin- ger. While gone Morrison slipped in and slipped the ring into his hip pocket, He then went down stairs and out on the street. Mr. Bufling- ton mistrusted him and in company with a colored man gave chase, They caught him and demanded the ring. Upon his denying having the same they held him and searched thorough- ly, but they could not find the article upon his person, They believed he took it and threw it away or dis- posed of it in some way. They took ]\uu by force to pelice headquarters, and reported the circumstances to Chief Field who at once instituted a thorough examination, The stolen ring was found in the hip pocket, alse a very fine gold watch chain belonging to some person from whom he no doubt had stolen it. Complaint was immediately made, and the case was heard before Judge Burke, who found Morrison guilty and sentenced him to ten days in the county jail. CRIMES OF THE CITY.
